Wikipedia:WikiProject Astronomy/User:Marshallsumter Incident Article Fix-up Coordination Page

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

User:Marshallsumter seems to have abused the autopatroller right (which was removed per ANI discussion), and a number of his articles are under deletion for possible WP:OR/WP:SYNTH/WP:COPYVIO. There was also found to be high levels of unattributed WP:CWW. This category is a temporary category to aid in the process of vetting other articles and making sure they are not similarly compromised – even if not resulting in deletion, there is reason to believe they might have serious issues that need attention.

Articles replaced by redirects[edit]

(For more, see also below at Articles restored or recreated after deletion.)

  1. Assembly of the transcription preinitiation complex – removed redundant material and created redirect to transcription preinitiation complex. Could also be deleted entirely. --- Medical geneticist (talk) 03:10, 10 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Earthquake precursor - I have redirected this to Earthquake prediction. LadyofShalott 03:20, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Fair weather - I've redirected this to Weather. LadyofShalott 03:38, 11 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  4. RNA polymerase II holoenzyme stability – created redirect to RNA polymerase II#holoenzyme stability, where most of the material was apparently copied from. Article could just as easily be deleted as it contained little additional information much of which was incorrect. Medical geneticist (talk) 02:39, 10 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  5. Tephra layer - redirected by Drmies to Tephra
  6. X-ray generation - redirected to X-ray
Note that I've done a histpurge on all these redirects. T. Canens (talk) 22:16, 16 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Comments[edit]

The following mass-deleted articles had comments on this page suggesting they might be worth keeping:

  1. ESRO 2B: prodded, but someone objected
  2. Ribonucleoside monophosphate: reviewed, no significant problems. -- Ed (Edgar181) 18:19, 9 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Student Nitric Oxide Explorer: Article is a keeper, with the topic notable and the prose okay. Binksternet (talk) 17:58, 10 September 2011 (UTC) - I have userfyed it to my name space and are working on it...--Cerejota (talk) 08:22, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  4. Transcription start site: Really important article but needs attention. --- Medical geneticist (talk) 00:44, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Would you be interested in starting this one from scratch? I'd certainly help out. If not it'll be on my ToDo list and I will get round to it soon (hopefully) Jebus989 13:25, 15 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I could help out, but it would be a shame to have to start from scratch. The original article really wasn't that badly damaged by Marshallsumter and in fact had been edited by a number of other editors if I recall correctly. It may have gotten swept up in the net along with the other bad articles that were created. If it were up to me I would restore and then mercilessly chop -- much easier as an editor than having to come up with an article from scratch! --- Medical geneticist (talk) 14:17, 15 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm usually the opposite—I'd prefer to work from scratch so that I know everything is correct and referenced properly. But if you say the article was not too bad (I'm sure I saw it, if not edited it) I'll ask to have it userfied unless you wish to do this? then fix it up and move it to the mainspace Jebus989 15:26, 15 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I am afraid that I don't have the technical know-how to resurrect an article. But if you let me know where to find it I can help clean it up. --- Medical geneticist (talk) 23:06, 15 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Images[edit]

A number of astronomical articles use(d) images on Commons which have copyvio issues. If those images are needed, it might be best to (a) upload them on Wikipedia as "fair use" or (b) pursue proper permission via OTRS. -- 202.124.75.234 (talk) 21:59, 14 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Restoring articles[edit]

List of solar X-ray astronomy satellites doesn't appear to me to have any fatal problems: it's a simple list (so no copyright problems), it covers a single notable subject in a coherent fashion, and it should be possible to find sources for all the entries. Does anyone see problems that I'm missing? --Carnildo (talk) 23:08, 15 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Unlinking bad[edit]

I think we should discourage editors from unlinking some of the redlinks resulting from this mass deletion. I have already reverted two unlinks but as I noticed several other redlinks have been unlinked could the community decide what the consensus is for me to revert most of the unlinks I see connected to this affair? -84user (talk) 18:49, 24 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

WP:REDLINK , but many editors I have encountered actively remove redlinks because they are "ugly", or they think any kind of redlinking is tantamount to vandalism (!??) (that might be a result of the tag {{cleanup red links}} giving them the idea that redlinks are bad) ... no idea what could be done about it. 70.24.247.61 (talk) 04:59, 6 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
