The seven deadly sins?[edit]

I've been able to synthesize the wool clue, the humanoid clue, and the disease clue to each point to the Seven Deadly Sins. But what about the rest...? - ElAmericano | talk 18:59, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You mean the other five clues? -- Ravn 20:21, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Irish nationalist[edit]

For the Irish nationalist, I found: Jimmy Brown, Thomas Johnson, Timothy Daniel Sullivan, Isaac Butt, though I'm inclined to believe that none of those are correct, since it says the "name used by". Is the nationalist Wilson? (and is it the first of last name that we are looking for?) AndyZ 17:12, 5 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's not Wilson, and you should not be looking for his first or last name. -- Ravn 19:12, 5 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I thought it might be James Wilson (Irish Nationalist) because he changed his name. AndyZ 20:02, 5 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose "should not be looking for first or last name" means that Provisional Irish Republican Army#P. O'Neill is along completely the wrong lines, too? (I hope it's alright to join in here: I blush to admit that this is the first time I have figured out how to find the answer/discussion page.) --Telsa (talk) 12:07, 17 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Welcome Telsa. :) No, I wasn't thinking of the PIRA. -- Ravn 13:41, 17 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Clues I found[edit]

N° 1 identifies a language featuring the sound /ɣ/. - Estonian, Mandarin, Irish, Vietmanese, and Yorkshire Dialect of English. But which one?
N° 2 is the name used by an Irish nationalist. - Fenian?
N° 3 unites nylon and wool under one name. - Textile?
N° 4 is a franchise product in black, yellow, green, blue and shades of pink.
N° 5 is a Boeing airplane. - Jumbo Jet?
N° 6 is a disease not involving the lymph nodes. - It can't be to do with microbes, so I think that is Cancer.
N° 7 is humanoid, but very slow.
N° 8 is a Central European airline. - Country in the Alps?
~ Ghelae 17:31, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  1. None of these, maybe you looked up the wrong sound.
  2. Here, a certain person is meant, not a general term. (by an Irish nationalist, not for Irish nationalists).
  3. more specifically
  4. -
  5. To find this one, you will probably need more of the other clues.
  6. Correct, but Cancer can affect the lymph nodes.
  7. -
  8. Nope.

-- Ravn 17:42, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Following up on the clues, would the disease either be Bladder cancer or Pancreatic cancer, both of which do not implicitly state that anything involving the lymph node occurs? AndyZ 21:50, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Another question- would humanoid refer to fictional or real things? AndyZ 23:39, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It is real. -- Ravn 16:24, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think the language is Ewe. - ElAmericano | talk 23:35, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

And the humanoid is a sloth, ¿no? Ravn: Does the numero sign in front of each number relate to the answer? - ElAmericano | talk 01:41, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No, neither the Ewe language nor a sloth are related to the answer. The isn't either, sorry. I just did't like to bullet-point all my clues. ;) -- Ravn 16:24, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Would the humanoid be an extinct human, because I don't think they would be very fast, being fossils... or a dead person? Ghelae 17:38, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry Ghelae, I will only further comment on actual guesses. This is not about getting the information from me. -- Ravn 17:53, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Its not Ewe... then is it Modern Greek, Arabic, Armenian, or a Turkic language, including Azerbaijani? And is the first letter of the named used by the Irish nationalist "N"? AndyZ 00:03, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You are on the right track with the languages but not the Irishman. -- Ravn 08:32, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

2. Does our Irish Nationalist share his name with an American astronaut?
3. Does our nylon/wool word rhyme with "pays"?
4. Was our multi-colored product released for sale in 1998?
7. Was our humanoid born in 1971?
Hoof Hearted 21:50, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, I don't think that you are thinking of what I am. -- Ravn 22:32, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Airline[edit]

The definition for Central Europe is very vague, so the following are all possibilities I think could possibly make sense: Dau Air, FAI Air Service, OLT, ABS Jets, MAP, LTU, Niki, MALÉV Hungarian Airlines. AndyZ 00:31, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It is not included in your list. -- Ravn 08:32, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

By Ravn's answer earlier on, it would not be in the Alps either, so it must be in one of these countries.

message different from answer ?[edit]

I'm a bit confused since I think I know the "message" and also the answer, but they are different. Is that possible? Or can we know if the answer is related to a Tuesday? — MFH:Talk 15:00, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The message actually is the only answer you can find (apart from identifying the individual clues). It is not related to a Tuesday.. at the limit it is remotely related to a Sunday. -- Ravn 15:27, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If we find the answer, but there were several possibilities for the individual choices (e.g. for the language, disease, airplane, airline) which lead to the same answer, are they accepted? — MFH:Talk 15:11, 17 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'd say yes. But at least in the case of the language, disease and airline, there will just be one available choice. -- Ravn 16:11, 17 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No. 2[edit]

Still stumped on most of them, but I think I might have the Irish nationalist... is it Æ (pseudonym of George William Russell)? —Zero Gravitas 10:40, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Correct. -- Ravn 10:52, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Was the humanoid created in 1986? --Spondoolicks 14:30, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yup. -- Ravn 16:22, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Airline (again)[edit]

If by 'central european airline' it is meant 'pan-central-european airline', then it is my guess that it is SkyEurope. - Ghelaetalkcontribs 19:11, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Also, the Italic text for this question is A bit late, but a good start. I'm thinking that the slow humanoid is the main part of the first question, but until Spondoolicks answers what the humanoid is, we won't be able to work out how it is interelated. Just another of my random thoughts about these questions that I put down until needed… - (Very Mysterious) Ghelaetalkcontribs 20:03, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think this does it[edit]

  1. HY
  2. AE
  3. PA
  4. PR
  5. Y2
  6. N0
  7. E0
  8. W6

I "got" the basic idea for a matrix of letters read vertically some time ago, but was only able to get as far as this after filling in "AE" and "E0" as per the above contributions (I had been wasting time with some incorrect guesses). Zoicon5 22:32, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ravn, I'm impressed. - ElAmericano (dímelo) 01:25, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Congratulations, Zoicon5. Thanks ElAmericano. :) -- Ravn 16:10, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
