Very rough draft[edit]

This attached event page (Project page) is a very rough draft; a starting place. Please pitch in and help it crystallize. Cheers! {{u|Checkingfax}} {Talk} 00:48, 23 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Google registration form not live[edit]

@Checkingfax: I clicked on RSVP and got "The form Bay Area WikiSalon is no longer accepting responses." Are you still working on it? Funcrunch (talk) 05:45, 4 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Funcrunch. Yes, just started working on it and had not really advertised it yet, but it is open for RSVPs now. Would you like to display some of your photos on a big laptop on a countertop or such? Something that folks could scroll through? Got any other ideas to make this fun? If so, please add them to the event page.
Also, please add yourself to the page as a volunteer photographer if you are willing to do that and define the scope of your contribution. Cheers! {{u|Checkingfax}} {Talk} 00:55, 6 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Signed up to take pix. I'd be happy to display some of my Commons photos if a laptop and display will be provided. Funcrunch (talk) 02:55, 6 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Edit-a-thon[edit]

I can run an edit-a-thon group. I have a list of articles at User:Dreamyshade/In the news articles (topics recently in the news that are marked with needs-improvement tags) that I'd be happy to work with people on editing, including helping newcomers get started. Dreamyshade (talk) 06:36, 4 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Dreamyshade. That sounds great. Should we distribute the article list so folks can come prepared with some citations to help build out the pages? Can you please add your name to the volunteers section of the event page and list the scope of your offer? Cheers! {{u|Checkingfax}} {Talk} 00:55, 6 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Sure! I moved the list to Wikipedia:Meetup/SF/Wikipedia Day 2017/Editathon and updated the page to reflect this. Thanks! Dreamyshade (talk) 00:05, 8 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Checkingfax, I moved this info into the main page - feel free to adjust if you'd like it formatted a different way. Dreamyshade (talk) 02:04, 9 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Dreamyshade. Awesome! Cheers! {{u|Checkingfax}} {Talk} 01:16, 14 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Facilitator[edit]

Hi, Rosiestep. That would be awesome if you could make it and facilitate things. Please add your name and the scope of your offer to the volunteers section on the event page. Cheers! {{u|Checkingfax}} {Talk} 00:55, 6 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Rosiestep. Please feel free to tweak the Project page since you are our facilitator. Stephen LaPorte will be there at Noon. I have arranged to show Andrew Lih's video reel with countdown timer starting at 1:40 p.m. for early arrivers to watch. I am hoping that Ben Creasy will come early too for setup help. Cheers! {{u|Checkingfax}} {Talk} 01:15, 14 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Organizing[edit]

Hi, Ben Creasy and Slaporte. I launched this WD16SF event page. Please tighten it up and leave any comments here so others can pitch in too, and we can start getting the word out. Stephen: How long can we book the room for? How long can you hang out? Cheers! {{u|Checkingfax}} {Talk} 01:06, 6 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Open-Space sessions[edit]

Hi All,

I'm planning to facilitate two open space sessions on

a) "Querying" in Wikipedia / Wikidata, re https://blog.wikimedia.de/2016/10/30/10-cool-queries-for-wikidata-that-will-blow-your-mind-number-7-will-shock-you/

b) using "Citoid" - https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Citoid - to cite references re Wikipedia and Wikidata,

Hi, Checkingfax, Here are the beginnings of two Open Space sessions I'm planning to facilitate at Wikipedia's birthday on Sunday, January 15th at WMF SF. Thoughts, questions, observations?

Thanks! Scott WUaS (talk) 02:38, 7 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Scott WUaS. Please add your proposals to the event page (Project page). Cheers! {{u|Checkingfax}} {Talk} 05:40, 8 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Scott WUaS. Our WMF host, Stephen LaPorte, will be opening the Chip Deubner Lounge at Noon in case you need some extra time to figure out your open space facilitation. Especially things like a booth, table, or chairs, etc. Cheers! {{u|Checkingfax}} {Talk} 01:20, 14 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please RSVP on Google Form[edit]

Hi, @Dreamyshade, Rosiestep, Ijon, Cullen328, and Ben Creasy:Please be sure to RSVP on the Google Form so we order enough cake, ice cream and drinks. Cheers! {{u|Checkingfax}} {Talk} 05:40, 8 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I thought I had. Do you not see my RSVP there? My name is Asaf Bartov. Ijon (talk) 07:59, 8 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Asaf. My bad. Sorry. Cheers! {{u|Checkingfax}} {Talk} 08:01, 8 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I RSVPed already too. Thanks! Dreamyshade (talk) 02:04, 9 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Roger that, Dreamyshade. See you Sunday. Stephen LaPorte will be there starting at Noon and we should have a warm-up video starting about 1:40 p.m. for early arrivers. Cheers! {{u|Checkingfax}} {Talk} 01:11, 14 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Photo exhibit[edit]

@Checkingfax: What do you have in mind for the photo exhibit? If we're having an exhibit featuring San Francisco photogs already, I feel like it would be redundant to have a separate display of my own. Of course I have lots of pix from the WikiSalons, but also from a number of other events around the city (and elsewhere); here are my Commons categories... Funcrunch (talk) 03:04, 9 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Funcrunch. I am not sure how I missed this. My apologies. You are free to run with it however it pleases you. Nobody has volunteered to step into this slot, so you are it. Cheers! (courtesy ping to: Ben Creasy and Slaporte){{u|Checkingfax}} {Talk} 01:55, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Checkingfax: Thanks, I'll put together a slideshow with some pix I took in San Francisco (including at Wikipedia 15 and the salons) over the last year. Funcrunch (talk) 02:41, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Checkingfax: Should I include some pix from WikiConference North America too? They're mostly just people speaking at podiums, but I might find a couple that are more visually interesting... Funcrunch (talk) 02:43, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Funcrunch. Sounds good to me! Stephen LaPorte is going to be there at Noon and I plan to be there shortly thereafter so we can make this smooth. I have arranged to show a 25 minute video with a countdown timer starting at about 1:40 p.m. for early arrivers. I am hoping that Ben Creasy will show up early, since it is not a regular work day for him. Cheers! {{u|Checkingfax}} {Talk} 01:09, 14 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Checkingfax: I e-mailed you a preview of my slideshow just as you were posting this. I can arrive at 1 p.m. to help set up. Funcrunch (talk) 01:23, 14 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Pix are up[edit]

I've posted my pix to the Wikipedia 16 SF category. Pinging Checkingfax in case you want to add any to the main page. Also pinging Ijon who was very keen on getting pix of the pre- and post-edited birthday cake ;-) Funcrunch (talk) 04:31, 17 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! Ijon (talk) 05:47, 17 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Funcrunch for coming and for all your effort during and before the event. Please edit the event page as you see fit. I do not have access to my laptop yet. Thanks to Ijon we had a cake-edit-a-thon and much more! Hope to see y'all Wednesday, February 22 at 6 p.m. which will be a Bay Area WikiSalon with a short presentation. Cheers! {{u|Checkingfax}} {Talk} 17:22, 17 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
