Notes[edit]

After some tidying up a lot of things still need to be done. First of all, this list of authors should be put into alphabetical order according to the authors' surnames. Also, it might be worth the effort to check how many of the requests here could be removed because they (a) are in fact acts of vandalism, (b) do not meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines, or (c) already have an article under a different (maybe just a corectly speld) title. <KF> 05:02, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Small point: Wikipedia:Notability isn't supposed to apply to red links; the guideline is for those is whether they "could plausibly sustain an article". I think the idea is that, if someone comes along and thinks they can make a good case for the book or author's notability, they put it in an article; if not, the link stays red and no harm is done.
It might be a good idea to require article requests to be signed, though, to make it easier to track spam and vandalism. I'm not sure why that's not currently a rule. Maybe propose it at Wikipedia talk:Requested articles? --DocumentN (talk) 03:31, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

One thing I have noticed (and I find this at Sci Fi/Fantasy cons as well) is that a great deal of the names are self-published and/or use digital publishing. I'm not saying that they aren't authors, but the credibility of their writing and popularity wanes when you can nominate yourself. When dealing with it in conventions where everybody wants to be on programming, we say that the author has to have had a story in the past 5 years published by a reputable publishing company. Obviously, the 5 years won't work here, but it would be worth it to set up a list of publishing companies which are established rather than the hundreds of publishing companies authors create to publish their own books.

Another thing we look at is awards. Some awards are huge: Hugo, Man Booker, Pulitzer, Nebula, World Fantasy, Bram Stoker, etc. But there are many minor awards that, while valid and are given to the best person who fits the description, are usually set up by a small group or individual or even publishing company to create marketing for them. The awards are sometimes very specific. (Best African-American Erotic Fantasy eBook author in Kentucky; not a real award, btw. :) ) So we need to be careful not to add weight to someone who has won any award. Like the publishers, it might also be worth it to create a list of, valid isn't the right word, major or established awards which can be added to as new awards are created.

I am trying really hard not to be insulting, but I don't want to spend my time researching an author who put their book up on Amazon Digital and has sold 3 copies. I would rather research a lesser-known, but still well-regarded author who is established or who has won some major award like Fonda Lee. Her debut adult novel, Jade City, was nominated for an Andre Norton Award and a Nebula Award and it won Best Novel at the 2018 World Fantasy Awards.

Also, shouldn't we remove listings as they are completed? I am happy to take all of this on, if you want. I have the unique experience of knowing lots of publisher's, writers and booksellers who can help me in my endeavors of making the listings. (I also have OCD which makes me really good at research.) I can also edit the listings and remove those that are done. I feel it would be easier to see the work which needs to be done that way. And regarding removing names which have not been completed, but which I feel do not meet requirements or high standards, I will post a list here before anything is removed. (Or we can add a page for listings which are not consider priority, but have been requested.) Just in case someone else has an opinion or argument as to why the author is valid.

I am an SEO Expert and fully understand what it means to get a page and link on Wikipedia which is what most of these people are doing either for SEO purposes or just to get their name out there.

Also, I need a hobby and this delights my OCD and visionary personality.

Sorry if this may sound a little brutal. It is not meant to be. I have a very analytical mind. Would love to hear how others feel about this. Peace out.

Help![edit]

How do I add an entry suggestion? The guidelines say to add it at the most appropriate place, but there is no edit button visible. I checked at the top of the page as well as at the category, sub-category and letter. Anyway, here is the entry I'd like to see: The Player on the Other Side. This is a mystery novel by Theodore Sturgeon. The worth of this novel is pretty obvious from the comments quoted on Wik's Theodore Sturgeon page. 211.225.34.176 (talk) 03:26, 3 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I want to add page o Author and Poetess Erum Zehra From Pakistan Neha Zahid (talk) 08:50, 2 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

- This confused me too. "Wikipedia:Requested articles/Arts and entertainment/Literature" seems to have no place for articles on national literatures which is maybe why Wikipedia's article nomenclature here is somewhat confusing/inconsistent. I suggest every country be given an article e.g. "Xlandian literature" (which might involve renaming some entitled "Xlandian writers") which would then link to other articles ("Xlandian novelists", "Xlandian poets", etc.). Some countries at the moment have no information on literature at all. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 120.17.189.21 (talk) 03:54, 5 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Missing close ref tag[edit]

I was puzzled why several redlinked entries were not appearing and discovered that this edit omitted a close ref tag. The redlinks affected were: Mary Daheim, Maureen Moss, Megliore degli Abati and Meo Abbracciavacca. I have now added the close tag here. -84user (talk) 13:14, 21 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Alphabetizing[edit]

It should be noted somewhere that proper names need to be entered as they will appear on the articles (e.g. John Smith...not Smith, John) otherwise when the article is created that won't be reflected here. (real example: Carew, Opal:Opal Carew) WQUlrich (talk) 20:16, 15 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Would it be a good idea to have a big banner encouraging people to place the articles in alphabetical order by surname? I know it already says that's what you should do on this page at least twice, but maybe a banner at the top of this page (or even on the edit page, so they'll see it no matter where they click edit) could help. I've actually added a subpage for requests needing alphabetisation. Requests to be alphabetized. This is purely to make cleaning up the page easier, but if it's a better way of getting the page organised, feel free to use it. Lithium (talk) 11:22, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Cleaning up Gaelic literature template[edit]

I've been cleaning out the red links from Template:Gaelic literature and posting them here. Unfortunately, I don't have any details for most of the authors, so they will come with summaries like "Ulster Irish-language writer". Also, I cannot guarantee that they meet Wikipedia notability criteria. Alázhlis (talk) 03:46, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
