Wikipedia:WikiProject Colonialism

This is a large part of history but inactive in this community. THE NEW ImmortalWizard(chat) 16:45, 26 July 2019 (UTC) The other side of British History is polished while Wikipedia:WikiProject British Empire/Important remains unchecked. THE NEW ImmortalWizard(chat) 16:52, 26 July 2019 (UTC)

Indigenous view

I've added a template {{{:Template:Indigenous}}} for use when a particular article only presents a story from the point of view of colonists/settlers. Hopefully people in this project will find it useful. - Francis Tyers · 22:19, 4 September 2019 (UTC)

Women in Red's stub contest is starting now

Our three-month stub contest is starting now and will continue until the end of the year. Although there will be no physical prizes, each month (October, November and December) recognition will be given to the winners of two different sections: one for new stubs, the other for enhancing existing stubs to start class and beyond. The contest is open to all registered members of Women in Red. Join in now and help us improve women's coverage on Wikipedia.--Ipigott (talk) 19:33, 30 September 2019 (UTC)

Relevant discussion at Village pump (proposals)

I've started a discussion here about a proposal to have semi-regular RfCs about sources from systemically-biased-against regions (and topics) in order to reduce systemic bias (particularly in relation to new page patrols). Editors watching this page are encouraged to participate. signed, Rosguill talk 04:59, 6 November 2019 (UTC)

Referring to ships as "she"

 – Pointer to relevant discussion elsewhere.

Please see Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style#"She" vs. "it" for ships. This is a perennial discussion that never seems to reach consensus. Notice of this round of discussion was sort of spammed to various ship- and military-related projects and pages (i.e., places of strong concentration of fans of using "she" for ships, and of male editors in particular), so I'm notifying some other wikiprojects and such that are apt to have wider views and demographics, for balance.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  09:33, 23 November 2019 (UTC)

Lack of commercial content

I put in a bullet point in the bias section on the essay. I think that it could be expanded to a new section, since it would imply a significant change in the number of articles on businesses and their products. Which prompted me to bring this issue up on this Wikiproject.

Currently most WP:LISTED companies are not in Wikipedia. This equivalent to not having articles on most major cities (geography) or most universities (education). In a typical developed country for every 1 million businesses there will be about 250 listed businesses, the proportion of listed companies is much smaller in undeveloped countries. The number of listed companies is somewhere between the number of Cities and Towns within the country all of which have articles. One of the reasons for this is because of the need to battle against editing by persons with conflicts of interest means that a large number of editors had become biased against commercial topics because of the widespread abuse of the area. So that even in the case of WP:LISTED most are not on Wikipedia and the number of missing significant unlisted commercial organisations is even greater.

Suggested goal ensure that Commerce is a category in the Vital articles and that the global 1000 companies are in the WP:Vital_articles/Level/5. RonaldDuncan (talk) 17:34, 9 December 2019 (UTC)

I think a good first step on this would be to have lists of the WP:LISTED companies. Unfortunately stock exchange lists seem to be a prime target for erythrophobic editors. I randomly dipped into the history of List of companies listed on Euronext Dublin and found multiple cases of WP:WRITEITFIRST being cited to justify redlink removal, as if that page were policy rather than a regrettable and dated essay. I also noticed several cases of delisted companies being entirely removed from the page, which suggests an alarming degree of confusion as to the purpose of an encyclopedia. Perhaps there's a way to restructure these lists that would discourage such behavior? -- Visviva (talk) 19:46, 23 January 2020 (UTC)

Request help with new Council for WikiProjects

Hi. I am trying to create a forum where various WIkiProjects can exchange ideas and information about their best ideas, efforts, methods, and accomplishments. I am the Lead Coordinator at WikiProject History. I tried to create an active exchange at WikiProject Council, but did not get very far when I tried to do so.

I would like to get some interested editors together who might be interested in helping with this idea, either with getting WikiProject Council moving again, or creating a whole new WikiProject to do so.

You can sign up to help at Wikipedia:WikiProject Editors Forum/Members. Right now, this page is a redirect to a draft in my user space; we will move it to the project space as soon as we have ten people signed up.

eventually, the goal would be to have a few people from a wide variety of WikiProjects and varioous topical areas, working together at WIkiProject Council, to help us create a forum and an exchange for ideas and information.

Would you be interested in helping with this? Please let me know. If you wish, you can simply comment on my talk page to let me know any comments or thoughts on this. thanks!! --Sm8900 (talk) 02:12, 26 January 2020 (UTC)

School bus

Input requested at Talk:School buses in North America (multiple sections) where it has been suggested that the North American "school bus" is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for School bus and the page should be moved back. 212.135.65.247 (talk) 09:08, 28 January 2020 (UTC)

Gender dysphoria article discussion

Please see Talk:Gender dysphoria for the ongoing debate, which includes some discussion of systemic bias generally and global perspective specifically. The relevant talk page sections are 4. Let's move away from U.S.-centric articles (DSM-5 vs. ICD-11); 5.Recent lead changes; 6. Text; 7. Multiple issues cleanup tag; 8. 2nd paragraph of lead. ¶ I believe input from WP:CSB members would be helpful. (I have no idea if Project members will agree or disagree with my personal views. My intention in posting here is to (hopefully) have a broad, well-informed discussion.)   -  - Mark D Worthen PsyD (talk) (I'm a man—traditional male pronouns are fine.) 19:57, 15 February 2020 (UTC)

Request for comment: Si Kaddour Benghabrit

Hello, I've started a request for comment at at the talk page for Si Kaddour Benghabrit that I believe might concern this WikiProject. The issue is that I'm trying to add information about this person's role in North African politics, but resources are scant and I've had to rely on a primary source. There is a user who prefers less "questionable" Western sources who keeps reverting my edits. إيان (talk) 09:27, 16 March 2020 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Aurat (word)

The terms "Aurat", "Arvad", "Avret", and "Awrath" may refer to: Women of Asian religious or cultural descent and identity.

Self nomination for AFD since article copy pasted to Draft:Aurat for incubation because IMHO current article title Aurat (word) is misleading and confusing leading to western systemic bias and stifling the article growth. Please find Detail reason at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Aurat (word)

I invite project members to review current and potential sourcing and weigh in on the AfD discussion. Thanks! Bookku (talk) 02:45, 10 June 2020 (UTC)

How to record nationality on Wikidata?

I invite your feedback on a property proposal for nationality as a cultural identity over on Wikidata. The proposed property is meant to offer an alternative to "ethnic group" and to nationality as defined by citizenship. Your comments, particularly on how this might counter or further systemic bias, are welcome and needed. Thank you. Qono (talk) 05:01, 21 July 2020 (UTC)
