Hi Warinhari, thanks for your reply. If you wouldn't mind replying here, I'll be watching your talkpage, thanks! I'm afraid that the simple translation of a book probably isn't allowed as it's infringing the copyright of the owner's of the book. See [[Wikipedia:COPYOTHERS#Using_copyrighted_work_from_others]]. What you can do, however, is to reformulate the contents of the book into an article of your own. You have to reformulate it by [[Wikipedia:FAQ/Copyright#Derivative_works|enough]], though. Furthermore, it would be preferred if you would have additional sources. [[User:Jhschreurs|Jhschreurs]] ([[User talk:Jhschreurs|talk]]) 08:38, 5 February 2012 (UTC)

February 2012

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, but when you add or change content, as you did to the article Raphaël Onana, please cite a reliable source for your addition. This helps maintain our policy of verifiability. See Wikipedia:Citing sources for how to cite sources, and the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. The hard work you have done to create an extensive page on this subject is, of course, appreciated. Jhschreurs (talk) 07:20, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Warinhari, thanks for your reply. If you wouldn't mind replying here, I'll be watching your talkpage, thanks! I'm afraid that the simple translation of a book probably isn't allowed as it's infringing the copyright of the owner's of the book. See Wikipedia:COPYOTHERS#Using_copyrighted_work_from_others. What you can do, however, is to reformulate the contents of the book into an article of your own. You have to reformulate it by enough, though. Furthermore, it would be preferred if you would have additional sources. Jhschreurs (talk) 08:38, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not attack other editors, as you did at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Raphaël Onana. Comment on content, not on contributors. Personal attacks damage the community and deter users. Please stay cool and keep this in mind while editing. Please remember WP:CIVIL. You have been warned in the past in the AfD regarding Raphaël Onana. --RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 20:41, 15 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Citing books

Here is how you cite a book on wikipedia: It would look something like this:
<ref>{{cite book |last= Cordell |first= Bruce R. |coauthors= Jeff Grubb, David Yu |title= Manual of the Planes |publisher= Wizards of the Coast |page=33 |year= 2001 |month= September |isbn= 0-7869-1850-8}} </ref>
It will appear like this[1] Place the reference at the end of a sentence where you would want the reference number (such as "[1]") to appear. For more information see cite book It is always nice to have the source be on the web, unfortunately, it is impracticable... Also, at the bottom of the page place a ==References== and a {{reflist}} This is where your citation will appear. You can find a page where this is used and click "Edit" to see the source for an example. If you have any more questions, please leave a message on my user talk:Jim1138 page. Feel free to delete this message to return your talk page to "normal". Happy editing! Jim1138 (talk) 09:05, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Citing Web

See Template:cite web for information on citing web such as with your google books reference which you left on my talk page. Jim1138 (talk) 09:06, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Removing AfD tags

Please do not remove the AfD tags. It seems to get people upset. Also, it won't affect whether or not the article is deleted. If the article looks good (and there are good sources!), then the tag will get removed. Cheers! Jim1138 (talk) 09:11, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination for deletion

Hi! I can imagine that you don't agree with the nomination. Maybe you are right and/or you can improve the article to let it be kept on Wikipedia. Please discuss on Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Raphaël_Onana. Of course, you put hard work in it, and I really don't want to negate that or upset you. Thanks!Jhschreurs (talk) 09:14, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Raphaël Onana

Would you please add more citations to your article Raphaël Onana? Referencing the book more than once is fine. A link or two to some other source, maybe a website even in French, would be great. A good reference on adding footnotes (<ref></ref>) is Help:Footnotes. It also talks about multiple references. Thank you! Jim1138 (talk) 18:03, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Simple referencing

Hi

You asked for help regarding the article Raphaël Onana. I don't have much time to do more than give you advice. First, you need to demonstrate that this is a significant subject: find two or three books that discuss the man at some length, and were not written by him. That shows that he's a significant historical person. Once you have those third-party sources, you can also use a book that was written by him, but try to rely as much as you can on books that were not written by him.

Wikipedia works on the basis that everything it says needs to be able to be supported by documented information from a reliable source. So everything the article says needs to be traceable back to a book or some other document that is publicly available. I see someone else has advised you on how to cite from a book, but the instructions they gave you may be a bit complicated. You can also cite your sources much more simply, by just putting the information in brackets like this: (Tolstoy, War and Peace, p. 345). Try to make sure that you give as much information as you can about your sources, including the author's full name, who the publisher is (and city of publication), and what year the book was published.

And really importantly, try to include the page number for each citation.

The most important thing is to have all the information there, not to get it all formatted correctly.

I hope this helps. Fuzzypeg 21:07, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You can also reference other publicly available documents that are not books. Government documents, for example. If he is a notable Cameroon war hero there will probably be several documents that discuss him. Fuzzypeg 23:04, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Book references

Just as an example, take a look at American Civil War to see how multiple book references are used. I notice that there are a few errors there! If it was easy, it would have been done already. Cheers! Jim1138 (talk) 21:31, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please assume good faith in your dealings with other editors, which you did not on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Raphaël Onana. Assume that they are here to improve rather than harm Wikipedia. The Bushranger One ping only 22:03, 7 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
