The Italian Trade Agency (Agenzia ICE) is a government agency of the Italian Republic whose purpose is to promote foreign trade and Italian exports. It was established in 1926 with the Decreto reale n. 800 with the name of INE (Istituto nazionale per le esportazioni, "National Institute for Exports") and had the main task of "promoting the development of exports of products coming from the Italian soil and industry". In 1935, the institute also developed specific skills in the field of imports by changing its name to Istituto nazionale per gli scambi con l'estero ("National Institute for Foreign Trade"). Subsequently, in 1945 it took the name "ICE - Istituto nazionale per il commercio estero".

In July 2011, the ICE was abolished and shortly after in December 2011 it was reconstituted in the form of government agency with the name "ICE - Agency for the promotion abroad and internationalization of Italian companies",. After about 12 months of transitional management, from 1 January 2013 the new ICE Agency has been operational to support Italian exports and investments around the world and to encourage foreign investments in Italy. Outside Italy, it's best known as the International Trade Agency (ITA).

Establishment

The ICE-Agency for the promotion abroad and the internationalization of Italian companies was established by law 22 December 2011 n. 214 as an entity with legal personality under public law, subject to the powers of direction and supervision of the Ministry of Economic Development which exercises them after hearing, for the matters of their respective competence, Italy's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of economy and finance.

The Agency has the task of developing, facilitating and promoting Italian economic and commercial relations with foreign countries, with particular attention to the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises, their consortia and groupings. ICE works in order to develop the internationalization of Italian companies, as well as the marketing of Italian goods and services in international markets, and to promote the image of the Italian product in the world. The Agency carries out activities useful for the pursuit of the tasks entrusted to it and, in particular, offers information, assistance and consultancy services to Italian companies operating in international trade and promotes cooperation in the industrial, agricultural and agro-food sectors, distribution and the tertiary sector, in order to increase the presence of Italian companies on international markets.

In carrying out its activities, the Agency works closely with the regions, the chambers of commerce, industry, crafts and agriculture, business organizations and other public and private subjects interested, in accordance with guidelines and strategic guidelines on the promotion and internationalization of companies that will be hired by an institutional control room.
