Liam Michael Thompson (born 25 April 2000) is a YouTube personality from Auckland, New Zealand. As of August 2021, he has 1,800,000 subscribers.[1] Thompson's channel consists of a mix of different videos with no common theme; however, his most successful videos tend to include his pet labradoodle, Max.[4] He also has an 19 year-old cat called Frodo.

Early life

Thompson was born to William Thompson and Jill Thompson (neé De Pledge). He has an older sister Alex, and two younger sisters Evie and Isla. He attended Balmoral School and Mount Albert Grammar School in Auckland, New Zealand[5][6] where he was actively involved in orienteering, winning many regional and national championships.[citation needed] After graduating in 2018, Thompson began studying engineering. He soon dropped out to pursue YouTube full time.[5][7]

YouTube career

Thompson has been actively posting on YouTube since mid 2019. His channel gained a large amount of traction in September 2019 after posting the video I Taught My Dog To Play Minecraft,[8] which has over 20 million views as of November 2020.[5][4] In an interview with New Zealand media outlet Stuff, he stated that "It took me four months to get 80 [subscribers] and, a week later, I had 150,000".[7]

On 20 July 2020, his YouTube channel reached 1 million subscribers. He celebrated with a video the next day where he bought Max 1 million dog biscuits, most of which he donated.[9]

Thompson is among the top 10 YouTubers in New Zealand.[10]
