== History ==
The airport was constructed in 1986 to facilitate corporate and government officials. With an increasing number of passengers, AAI decided to upgrade and expand the airport in 1996, owing to an increased number of passengers and the introduction of private operators in the sector.<ref name="sites.google.com">{{cite web|url=https://sites.google.com/site/lucknowtravelguide/lucknow-airport|title=Lucknow Airport- Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport, Lucknow – Lucknow Travel Guide|access-date=6 March 2016|archive-date=3 February 2016|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20160203140310/https://sites.google.com/site/lucknowtravelguide/lucknow-airport|url-status=live}}</ref>

On 17 July 2008, the [[Government of India]] officially renamed the Amausi Airport to Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport.

The second terminal (T2) equipped with latest technology was then built in 2012 to handle the increasing domestic traffic.<ref name="sites.google.com" /> T2 was inaugurated and granted International status on 19 May 2012.<ref>{{cite news|title=The Times Of India|url=http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/lucknow/Amausis-got-terminal-illness-Chaudhary-Charan-Singh/articleshow/15347004.cms|date=4 August 2012|access-date=21 August 2014|archive-date=13 October 2015|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20151013104324/http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/lucknow/Amausis-got-terminal-illness-Chaudhary-Charan-Singh/articleshow/15347004.cms|url-status=live}}</ref>
