Swissôtel Hotels and Resorts is a distinctive group of deluxe hotels, based in Zurich, Switzerland. Today this hotel chain comprises of a growing portfolio, currently including 27 properties in 15 countries, of which 5 hotels are under development, slated to open by 2008.

The hotel chain was originally founded in 1980 by Swiss Air and Nestlé and was acquired by Raffles Holdings Limited in 2001. The portfolios of both Swissôtel Hotels and Resorts and Raffles Hotels and Resorts were aligned to form Raffles International Limited.

In July 2005, Colony Capital LLC, a private international investment firm, acquired Raffles International Limited. Colony Capital LLC owns 100% direct equity interest in the hotel company. This transaction garnered the prestigious “Deal of the Year” award for Colony Capital LLC and Raffles Holdings Limited, presented at the 16th annual Hotel Investment Conference Asia Pacific (HICAP) in Hong Kong in October 2005.

In May 2006, Colony Capital together with Kingdom Hotels International acquired Fairmont Hotels & Resorts Inc. With the completion of the transaction, the Fairmont and Raffles International portfolios were combined, transforming the companies into a global hotel leader headquartered in Toronto called Fairmont Raffles Hotels International, with 120 hotels in 23 countries under four brands – Fairmont, Raffles, Swissôtel and Delta.

After the transaction, the corporate office of Swissôtel Hotels & Resorts moved to Zurich, Switzerland and is headed by Managing Director, Mr. Meinhard Huck.

The hotel chain demonstrates a strong belief in enhancing the communities and environment in which its hotels operate. Actively supporting a number of charities and non-profit organizations involved in aiding underprivileged children around the world, Swissôtel Hotels and Resorts also nurtures the same spirit among its employees, encouraging them to embrace volunteer community service.

Swissôtel Hotels & Resorts has a tradition of working with the communities in which its hotels operate, to raise funds for those in need.
SOS Children's Villages, an independent, non-political and non-demonstrational organization established for orphaned and destitute children all over the world, is a beneficiary of all Swissôtel hotels and resorts. A series of fundraising events such as an annual summer party in Zurich are organized by the hotels to champion the efforts of the SOS Children's Villages. Donation boxes are prominently displayed in all Swissôtel hotels worldwide to encourage guests to make a contribution to improve these children's lives. Swissôtel Hotels & Resorts support various SOS Children's projects around the world, and particularly the SOS-Children's Village in Lavrovo (Orjol) in Russia, where children still suffer from the after effects of Tschernobyl.
