B Wongar, Australian author writing chiefly on the fate of tribal people in Australia, wildlife and environment, born in East Europe in 1932 which he fled in early 1950’s. He spent some years in France as refuge were he met Jean-Paul Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir and Samoule Backett who encouraged him to write. He arrived in Australia in the 1960’s and moved up north were he lived with tribal aborigines for some years. The name Wongar was given to him by his tribal wife Dumala and her relatives. From Dumala he learned much about Aboriginal poetry. Which inspired him to write, some of his earlier work portraying tribal aborigines were published in Les Temps Modernes edited by Sartre and de Beauvoir. This angered Australian Government Authorities and he was expelled from the tribal area. The wife Dumala and the children fell victim to the Nuclear contamination brought about from Uranium mining. His earlier work including Nuclear trilogy ( Walg, Karan, Gabo Djara.) were suppressed by the Australian government. [1]

Wongar's most recent book is Totem and Ore. The book is a photographic collection non-fiction book which shows pictures of Aboriginal life during Uranium testing and Nuclear Bombing in Australia.

He still resides in Australia and writes about Aboriginal life there.
