Kukar (in Serbian: Kykap) is a small village in Croatia located approximately 3 km from the town of Vrlika under the mountain Dinara.
Name
The village is named after Croat tribe Kukari, that had a privilege to choose the Croatian king (besides 11 other privileged Croat tribes).[citation needed]
History
The history of the village of Kukar is closely tied with the history and settlement of Croats tribes in the valley of the river Cetina and Vrlika.
Demography
Populated by a both Orthodox Serbs and Roman Catholic Croats, the village of Kukar comprised of the following "houses" or families. Since 1995, few villagers mostly elderly pensioners, both Serb and Croat have returned to Kukar.
