Horrid Henry

Horrid Henry is the main fictional character in a popular series of children's books by Francesca Simon published by Orion Books.

Horrid Henry is a fictional character created by Francesca Simon and Illustrated by Tony Ross. It is also a TV series on CITV.By December, 2006, Horrid Henry had terrorised his parents, teachers, friends, neighbours and even the Queen in seventeen books, most of which had also been released as hugely popular audio books read by actress Miranda Richardson and published by Orion Audio. Chivers Audiobooks released the first two books read by Julia McKenzie. Also, Zubin Varla read Horrid Henry's Holiday (Horrid Henry, chapter 4) only, as part of The Puffin Book of Stories for 7-year olds audiobook. As of November, 2006, more than six million Horrid Henry books and audio books in twenty languages had been sold worldwide. In May 2006 the Children's ITV Channel announced that an animated TV series based on the Horrid Henry books had been commissioned from Novel Entertainment (see also Fimbles and The Roly Mo Show). The series is shown weekdays at 3.30 on the CITV Channel.

Horrid Henry

Horrid Henry plays a major role in the popular Horrid Henry series, he is perhaps best known for his time machine hoax, his tricks lead to great trouble by Mum or Dad. He has different favourite TV programs in every single book, notably. Terminator Gladiator is his favourite, other TV programs he likes are Gross-Out, Mutant Max, Hog House and Rapper Zapper. He loves the killer boy ratz who are his favourite band (in the TV series). He is half the time innocent and usually gets grassed on by Perfect Peter. What leads to jealousy is that Peter never gets sent to his room and that Henry spends half his time in his bedroom under a punishment by Mum or Dad, he loves computers. He is mostly known for his fairy prank he played on Peter for revenge. A spoiled brat who is rude, naughty and lazy in classtimes. He is usually has changes to his life, such liking swimming. Then later hating it. He is a very naughty boy indeed.

Perfect Peter

Perfect Peter is Henry's brother. As his name suggests, he's completely different, kind and ever so helpful and polite. However, this just encourages Henry to tease and bully him every waking minute; and because of this, Perfect Peter is often a victim of Henry's jokes. Perfect Peter always says "Please" and "Thank you". Peter hates sweets and chocolate and loves vegetables but not beetroot. Peter is best known for his yellow, shaggy, curly hair. He is a tell-tale and believes anything and everything Henry tells him. In the TV series, he can't commonly be heard saying sentences not composed of "Mum/Dad...Henry called me/is being/said I was..." or "Keep it away/get it off" Then there's his trademark "Wah-hoo-a-hoo-a-hoo" which can be heard when he's excited. Something he cannot stand above all else is his brother doing good deeds, to get in a punishment (notably from joining funfair outings); if such an event occurs, Peter is known to sink to even below Henry's level, doing what he can to ensure his older brother is punished. Despite his naivety he commonly uses the skills he has over his brother, notably not being able to manipulate others, using this to pin the blame on Henry. His favourite TV programme used to be "Manners with Maggie," before it went off the air because Henry wrecked it, to be replaced with "Mischief with Mildred". He likes watching "Daffy and her Dancing Dasies" and "Grow and Show". Also he wears "Daffy" underpants, as found out in "Horrid Henry's Underpants"! He even trespasses in Henry's room. One thing he really despises is Henry's aggressive hamster, Fang who likes to bite him. He has the same name as Peter Perfect who appears in Wacky Races. The name is just backwards.

Great Aunt Greta

Great Aunt Greta is Henry and Peter's aunt, she confuses Henry for a girl and Peter for a teenager, she does not have a TV. We find out that she does not have a TV in Perfect Peter's Horrid day, every year she will give Peter sum of money and she gives Henry a girly present which ends up being thrown in the bin or left under Henry's bed to collect dust.

Miss Battle-Axe

Miss Battle-Axe is Henry's teacher. Her Christian name is Boudicca, which was discovered in one of the books when she wrote Henry's parents a letter saying how 'horrid' he had been. She always gives Henry bad school reports and never smiles at her class. In an episode on the TV series she appears in a restaurant with her mother, who keeps saying to Henry how naughty (like Henry) Miss Battle-Axe was when she was a child. Miss Battle-Axe lives for the 'good old days' when teachers could smack children with rulers!

Minging Mum

Mum is mother of Henry and Peter, she has the same hair, color as Peter and has never trusted Henry to be well behaved, she is extremely healthy and always makes something with vegetables for dinner or maybe even more healthy snacks for parties. According to Henry, she said millions of times to henry, that he will not ever have a party because he is always naughty and never eats healthily on account of her very healthy attitude, she does not know that Peter is rude to Henry which is why she always believes Peter. She is best known for accusing Henry after Peter has told a tale on what Henry has done.

Dodgy Dad

Dad is the father of Henry and Peter, he always yells at Henry but, Dad never really yells at Peter, because he is a sweet and caring boy, who does things when he is told.

Rude Ralph

Rude Ralph is Horrid Henry's best friend, he wears a red fleece with beige trousers and black boots, he to also has five Game Boys. He has an original Game Boy and four more which we are unsure about, he looks extremely similar to Dennis the Menace in the UK and unlike Henry is a spoiled brat. According to one of the books, he has pizza and chips every single night at his house and never eats vegetables, he hates Peter and has sometimes been seen having an argument with Henry.

1. Horrid Henry-1994

Horrid Henry is dragged to a dancing class against his will, vies with Moody Margaret to make the yuckiest glop, goes camping in France and tries to be good like Peter, but ends up sniggering at Mum.

2. Horrid Henry and the Secret Club-1995

Henry gets an injection by Nurse Needle (or does he?). The Secret Club wages war against the Purple Hand Gang to see who is the best. Peter tries to be horrid and gets into trouble. It is Henry's parents' worst time of the year...Henry's birthday.

3. Horrid Henry Tricks the Tooth Fairy-1996

Henry is a page boy at Prissy Polly's wedding, the tooth fairy is in town...but Henry doesn't have a tooth for her, Henry breaks the meanest teacher in school and Margaret comes to stay (but for how long?)

4. Horrid Henry's Nits-1997

Horrid Henry tries to pass nits onto people in his class, scares Peter and his friends with a fake monster to earn money for a pair of toys, goes on a school trip and ruins his parents' dinner party.

5. Horrid Henry Gets Rich Quick-1998

Tired of his parents nagging on at him all the time, Henry runs away from home and bumps into Moody Margaret, thens cheats in sports day to win for the first time ever and finds a way to substitute Stuck up Steve's presents to himself when Steve and Aunt Ruby stay for Christmas.

6. Horrid Henry's Haunted House-1999

Horrid Henry goes to stay at Aunt Ruby's house, where his cousin Stuck-Up Steve tries to scare him by saying that there is a ghost in the room he is sleeping in. He also fights with Peter for the living-room chair, wins a prize at the school fair and goes on radio.

7. Horrid Henry and the Mummy's Curse-2000

Henry fights with Peter over a gold gizmo, plays a trick on the kids at his swimming lesson, has a bad time with his spelling homework and tricks Peter into thinking that Egyptian mummies are real using a Mummy kit he has.

8. Don't be Horrid, Henry!-2001

A preschool picture book of Horrid Henry as a baby.

9. Horrid Henry and the Bogey Baby Sitter-2002

Horrid Henry encounters the babysitter from hell, traumatizes his parents on a car journey, goes trick or treating at Hallowe'en, and invades Moody Margaret's Secret Club.

10. Horrid Henry's Stinkbomb-2002

Henry and Margaret steal each others' weapon idea when the traitors of each camp reveal it to them. He also gets Miss Battle-axe in trouble with the head, tries to win a reading competition for tickets to a theme park and goes for a sleepover at new Nick's house, but leaves in the middle of the night because it is horrible.

11. Horrid Henry's Underpants-2003

Henry makes a deal with his parents about him eating vegetables, receives girls underwear for a birthday present and finds himself wearing them, pretends to be sick on the same day as Peter (to get out of going to school) and finds a way to get money by writing thank you letters for about £200.

12. Horrid Henry Meets the Queen 2004

Henry in forced to do his chores, attempts to hypnotise Moody Margaret, insists on having a bath by himself and ruins the day when the Queen comes to school.

13. Horrid Henry and the Mega-Mean Time Machine-2005

Henry goes on a dreaded hike, stopping him from watching his favorite cartoon Rapper Zapper. He also tricks Peter into thinking that time machines are real in a truly fantastic plot, so Peter plots revenge against Henry and finally Henry goes to a posh French restaurant with Stuck-up-Steve and Rich Aunt Ruby for Mum's birthday.

14. Horrid Henry and the Football Fiend-2006

Henry looks at Peter's diary, plays a game of football at school, goes shopping for new clothes (but he didn't like it) and meets Bossy Bill again.

15. Horrid Henry's Christmas Cracker-2006

Horrid Henry ruins the school play, fails to buy his family and friends presents (so he gives them second hand things instead) and ambushes Father Christmas at last and creates a disaster at his Christmas party.

16. Horrid Henry and the Abominable Snowman-2007

Building a snowman brings out Henry's competitive streak, he sets up his Monstrous Makeovers business to rival Moody Margaret's Miraculous Makeovers, things go badly wrong when a famous author visits the school and he thinks "You'll be sorry when i'm dead" and spends a rainy day, writing his will.

Changes from book to book

• In 'Horrid Henry & the Mummy's Curse' ('Horrid Henry's Hobby'), Peter says that his favourite vegetable is beetroot, where as in 'Horrid Henry and the Mega-Mean Time Machine' ('Horrid Henry Dines at Restaurant Le Posh') he refuses to eat beetroot.
• In 'Horrid Henry's Holiday', Henry likes swimming. Seven books later, he hates it.
• In Horrid Henrys bathtime, Henry loves baths. Whereas in Horrid Henry's Diary, it said he hated baths.
• In Horrid Henry and the bogey babysitter, dad says that bedtime is 9:00, whereas in Horrid Henry's bedtime. It is one hour back (8:00pm).
• In 'Horrid Henry Tricks the Tooth fairy' and 'Horrid Henry and the Bogey Babysitter,' Pimply Paul hates children. However, in 'Horrid Henry's Christmas Lunch' he can be seen talking nicely to Henry.
