Fusinus novaehollandiae is a spindle shell, a species of very large sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusc of the family Fasciolariidae.

Distribution

This species is endemic to southeastern Australia including Tasmania, and possibly the northern half of the North Island of New Zealand although while some shells have been found, there is no evidence of the species breeding there.

Habitat

It is found on the continental shelf.

Shell description

The shell is large and very narrowly spindle-shaped, with a tall spire and a long siphonal canal. The whorls are rounded and sculptured with broad axial folds, crossed by wavy spiral cords.

The shell height is up to 228 mm.
