Lunapads International Products Ltd. is a woman-owned small business based in Vancouver, Canada that manufactures its own line of washable, cloth menstrual pads and underwear, and also distributes the DivaCup menstrual cup via its website, http://www.lunapads.com
History
"One of the first brands of alternative menstrual products to enter into online retailing, Lunapads has experienced significant growth of their direct sales through ongoing improvements to their website and by keeping on top of their online strategic efforts. Raised Eyebrow has had the great pleasure of being closely involved with the company since 2001 as both web site designers and online marketing strategists." - Raised Eyebrow Web Studio Inc.
Lunapads products were designed and created by Madeleine Shaw, a fashion designer, in 1993. She wrote the first business plan for Lunapads in 1994, and in 1995 opened a store and small production facility. By 1998, Lunapads were available in health food stores across Canada. In 1999, Madeleine Shaw met Suzanne Siemens, an accountant, at a community leadership course. Realizing that they shared a similar vision, they combined their skills to continue working to develop Lunapads International as a company. Lunapads products are now used by thousands of women all over the world.
Proprietary Products
- Lunapads come in four sizes of pads (mini, maxi, long and heavy) and two sizes of pantyliners (teeny, mini). Pads and pantyliners are available in either undyed, certified organic cotton or dyed cotton prints. Each pad is made with two layers of 100% cotton flannel base topped with a central pad made of 1 layer of ultra-thin nylon and 2 layers of 100% cotton fleece, plus ric-rac bands to hold Liners (see below for description).
- Lunapanties are Lunapads’ signature line of all-in-one padded period underwear. Regular Lunapanties are 100% certified organic cotton underwear that feature a 9” long panel of 100% cotton fleece sewn permanently into the gusset, making them suitable for daily discharge, very light menstrual flow and backup protection for internal products. The deluxe version varies in that the padded gusset includes a nylon lining, and ric-rac bands to hold Luna liners, making them suitable for average to heavy menstrual flow of light incontinence. Lunapanties are most frequently considered a menstrual product, but are also worn as maternity underwear (prenatal and post partum), and used by those who experience light or stress incontinence. Lunapanties are currently available in brief, bikini, and thong styles.
- Luna liners are 2 layers of oval or wing shaped 100% cotton fleece that are added to Lunapads and deluxe-style Lunapanties increase absorbency. Lunapads’ unique liner-on-top design allows the wearer to replace used liners with fresh, while still using the same base pad or panties.
- Lunapads Pantyliners are designed for ultra light protection, do not have nylon lining, and are not compatible with Luna Liners.
- Lunablankets are overnight menstrual blankets and contain one layer of thin, breathable nylon lining between layers of cotton fleece and flannel.
- Lunapads also offers its own PMS aromatherapy products, Lunablend – a blend of lavender, orange and geranium essential oils in a carrier oil that can be added to a bath or massaged into affected areas of the body, and Lunabalm, a balm version of the same therapeutic essential oil blend.
