Florida State and Virginia Tech face off in the inaugural ACC title game in 2005

The Dr Pepper ACC Championship Game is a football game held by the Atlantic Coast Conference each year to determine its champion. The game pits the champion of the Coastal Division against that of the Atlantic Division following the regular season. The game's corporate sponsor is Dr Pepper. Each year, the championship game has been held in Jacksonville, Florida, in Jacksonville Municipal Stadium (known as Alltel Stadium prior to 2007). The current hosting deal extends through the 2007 season. [1] The Gator Bowl Association and the city has placed a bid to host the game in 2008, 2009 and 2010; however, Orlando, Charlotte and Tampa have all expressed interest in hosting the game. [2]

As of 2007, five of the twelve ACC teams have played in the championship, and a different team has won the game in each of the first 3 years. In the 2007 game, Virginia Tech defeated Boston College for its second conference championship since joining from the Big East. Neither of the other two new teams—Miami and Boston College—has yet won an ACC championship.
