Keith Alan Scott is a fictional character from the television series One Tree Hill. He is the older brother of Dan Scott and a mechanic. He is portrayed by Craig Sheffer

That’s right, little brother. And no matter what you did on that basketball court a lifetime ago, and no matter what you do now, I’ll always be your big brother. So guess what, Danny boy? It was my name first. It’s Lucas’s name now. And there’s nothing you can do about it.

— Keith Scott

Season 1

In Season 1 he was a mechanic, but Dan later took over his business. Keith has always had a crush on Karen Roe but she loved his brother Dan, at least when she was young. When Dan left Karen alone before Lucas' birth, Keith took over as the father figure in Lucas's life. Karen and Keith remain very close and are really good friends, and as the season gets going the relationship between the two of them, begins to show signs of a possibility that they could get romantically involved. However this is put on hold when Karen is offered a chance of a lifetime to go to Florence on a cooking course. As she leaves for the airport she kisses him, and he believes that when she comes back they will finally be in a relationship together. But on the night she comes back he and Lucas are involved in a car crash, and it turns out that Keith had been drinking. Karen angry at Keith for being reckless with her son's life, tells him to leave the hospital and their relationship remains fragile. When Keith suspects that he might lose Karen, after she begins dating Larry Sawyer he proposes to her, but she says no. Heartbroken he decides to leave Tree Hill with Lucas accompanying him, he pays Deb a last visit which ends with them sleeping together and Dan walking in on them. This then leads Dan to say that "we are not Brothers", at the end of the season Keith and Lucas leave Tree Hill.

Season 2

When Keith and Lucas hear that Dan has had a heart attack they make a difficult decision and decide to come back to Tree Hill. Keith to help Dan, takes over at the dealership, and it is here where he meets a pretty lady named "Jules". However it turns out that Dan had hired Jules, a woman he found on the internet, to make Keith fall in love with her and break his heart as revenge for Keith sleeping with Deb. However, Jules truly falls in love with Keith and they were about to get married. Lucas, who had also found out about Jules, chose to move in with Dan to spare Keith the pain although it set him at odds with his mother. But after Karen confronted her, Jules left Keith at the altar. Keith goes to Dan and asks him if Dan set him up. Dan tells him and they end up exchanging punches with Keith leaving a broken man. His last words to Dan, "I got nothing left to lose. But you do. Remember that." He also feels betrayed by Lucas and Karen as they didn't tell him even though they knew that "Jules" was being paid by Dan to break his heart. He decides to leave and find "Jules".

Season 3

He later found her but Emily Chambers (Jules's real identity) turns out to be very different from the one he fell in love with. Through a flashback we find out that he came back to Tree Hill, and had planned to kill Dan but is stopped by Deb, who does it herself, although this fails. He returns to Tree Hill a few months later and when Dan charges him with trying to kill him because Deb used his whiskey to drug Dan, he still covers for her, even though she left town. He then resumes his relationship with Karen and they fall in love and Keith asks Karen if she would marry him, and she says yes. Keith also asks Lucas if he has his permission to adopt Lucas, and Lucas also says yes. All was going so very well for Keith, he was going to marry the woman he had always loved, and be legally Lucas's father, but unfortunately this never happened since he was murdered in "With Tired Eyes, Tired Minds, Tired Souls, We Slept". Dan still thought that Keith was the one who tried to kill him and wanted to settle the score. Towards the end of season 3, we found out that Karen is pregnant with Keith's child and that Keith's ghost is haunting Dan. It is unclear whether it is actually Keith's ghost doing the haunting, or if it is just Dan's guilt having a severe psychological effect on him.

Season 4

Apparently Keith was the one who gave Nathan the strength to get himself and Rachel out of the car when he got stuck in it underwater after the bridge accident in Season 3 finale. In " Songs to Live and Die By" It seems that Keith has become a kind of guardian angel to his nephews since he also helped Lucas during his near death experience. He even visited Dan in jail to tell him that he forgives him and gave him hints that Nathan didn't kill Daunte. Back in Lucas’s dream, Keith gave him some signs as to what happened during the day of the school shooting, which turns out that someone else was there and saw what really happened back then. In "All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone" Karen gives birth to their daughter Lily, and Keith is seen again.

Trivia
