==Football career==
In 2006 Fisher won more contested possessions in total than any other defender in the competition in only his third season. He was elite ball-winner for a defender averaging 21 disposals per game and winning more groundball-gets in the defensive 50 than any player.

In [[2005]], Fisher took a major step in his career and improved dramatically to hold down a spot of his own in the Saints' defence. He generally played on the third best forward of the opposition, and began to provide terrific run from the half-back line. In 2006, Fisher played every match and racked up 421 disposals for the season [http://stats.rleague.com/afl/stats/players/S/Samuel_Fisher.html]. His run and carry from the half-back line was critical to St Kilda's 6th-place finish, and Fisher finish 3rd in the St Kilda Best & Fairest in 2006 [http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/footy/common/story_page/0,8033,20522144%255E19772,00.html].
Signed a two-year contract extension in September of 2007, which will see him at the Saints until the end of 2010.

===2007 season===
Injuries to other key defenders at the start of the 2007 season saw Fisher assume the mantle at full-back. He performed strongly against the power forwards of the competition, before injuring his hamstring in Round 4. Fisher returned in Round 7, and was able to resume his attacking position across half-back in the second half of the year. He finished off the year strongly, and was nominated in the backline in the squad of 40 players for the [[All-Australian]] Team in 2007 [http://www.afl.com.au/Default.aspx?tabid=208&newsId=50526]. Fisher was ranked 8th in total marks, 17th in kicks per game, and second in marks per game.

Samuel "Sam" Fisher (born July 10, 1982) is an Australian rules footballer in the Australian Football League.

Football career

The versatile defender was selected as pick number 55 in the 2003 AFL Draft. He was 21 years of age when first recruited from West Adelaide, and made his debut in 2004 following some injuries to other key defenders.

In 2005, Fisher took a major step in his career and improved dramatically to hold down a spot of his own in the Saints' defence. He generally played on the third best forward of the opposition, and began to provide terrific run from the half-back line. In 2006, Fisher played every match and racked up 421 disposals for the season [1]. His run and carry from the half-back line was critical to St Kilda's 6th-place finish, and Fisher finish 3rd in the St Kilda Best & Fairest in 2006 [2].

2007 season

Injuries to other key defenders at the start of the 2007 season saw Fisher assume the mantle at full-back. He performed strongly against the power forwards of the competition, before injuring his hamstring in Round 4. Fisher returned in Round 7, and was able to resume his attacking position across half-back in the second half of the year. He finished off the year strongly, and was nominated in the backline in the squad of 40 players for the All-Australian Team in 2007 [3]. Fisher was ranked 8th in total marks, 17th in kicks per game, and second in marks per game.

Fisher signed a two-year contract extension in September 2007, which will see him at the Saints until the end of 2010 [4].

Golf career

Between the ages of 17 and 19 Fisher was a promising junior golfer, and played off a handicap of scratch.[citation needed] However, Fisher gave golf away for his AFL career.
