Peter Lik comments on his own photography: “My passion for photography is fulfilled by my search for the spirited heartland of mother earth. I have stood in awe of sculptured landscapes touched by the emerging light of dawn, the days last rays and the haunting glow of moonlight. I am certain that at times the land knows that I’m there and I am greatly affected by that knowledge and connection.” -- Peter Lik<ref>Quote by Peter Lik http://www.peterlik.com.au/pete.html</ref>

Peter Lik was born in Melbourne, of Czech immigrant parents. He is a self taught photographer[1] who took to the medium at an early age, and is now an Australian landscape photographer. It was whilst travelling in Alaska in 1994 that Peter's interest in photography took a turn and he began to experiment with panoramic cameras, previously having used 35mm cameras exclusively.

Lik started his own business when he was in his early twenties in America and was photographing locations like Yosemite National Park for postcard shoots. Peter would go back to the postcard companies and sell them the shots. After seeing some of the other work on the market and how his own was being used only for advertising, Peter decided to publish a small range of postcards himself with the money he had saved up from traveling. Lik opened his first gallery in his hometown of Cairns, Australia, which was followed almost immediately by a second in Port Douglas. He now has galleries in Sydney, Noosa, Hawaii, California and Las Vegas, establishing his distinctive brand of vivid nature photography worldwide.

Peter is mainly a landscape photographer, but cityscapes can also be found in his portfolio. His photography features dramatic lighting, angles and settings as well as bright, intense colors. Peter is especially well-known for the incredible depth-of-field in his images.

Some criticisms have arisen from those who believe that Lik uses digital techniques and programs (such as Photoshop) to enhance the colors in his photographs[2], although others have come to his defence[3].
