Julie Bindel (born 1962) is a British radical feminist writer and co-founded the group "Justice For Women".
Biography
Bindel who was involved in feminist law reform campaigns for victims of domestic violence originally began writing as a way to to get the message across to the wider public.
A a self described Marmite writer- either loved or hated[1], she is a freelance journalist who work regularly appears in the The Guardian[2].
Bindel only writes non-fiction including news articles; interviews; as well as columns and comment/opinion pieces. Her primary areas of interest are lesbian rights, the modern anti-trafficking campaigns and defending female victims of domestic violence who comit Mariticide. [1]
Bindel currently resides in Crouch End[1].
Controversy

Bindel's writing on gender reassignment surgery and transgender issues has caused controversy in the Transgender and greater LGBT communities. At the National Union of Students LGBT Campaign's 2008 Conference, Bindel was subject to a motion of censure, due to her arguments that gender reassignment surgery is unnecessary mutilation.[citation needed][3]

In 2008 Bindel was among those nominated for the Stonewall's 2008 awards which was eventually won by Dr Miriam Stoppard.
This nomination which was considered controversial by members of the Transgender Community and allies[5][6][7] resulted in the largest Transgender Rights demonstration in the UK to-date[8][9] In response, Bindel excited further controversy by suggesting in her column in The Guardian[10] that both Transgender and Bisexual people were not fit to be part of the LGBT movement appearing to link them to devil worshipers and people wishing to have sex with cats.[11]
