Babcock's Jump Orchestra released an album in 1992 which won an award for "Best Jazz Artist on Records" from ARIA awards. The album was released on Jump Records and was called Dave Babcock’s Jump Orchestra - Both Feet. The group was started in 1990 by Babcock as bandleader, and features a distinctively heavy horn sound. They toured throughout western Canadian and broke up in 1994, but have re-formed in recent years. A new Jump Orchestra album is in the works for a summer 2009 release. |

The Dave Babcock Group is Dave’s main band. It has produced one album so far, entitled 'Happenstance', consisting of original songs co-written by Dave Babcock and pianist Chris Andrew. It began pre-production in early spring of 2003 and was released on April 10, 2004. The release party was at an Edmonton jazz club called the Yardbird Suite and had a sold out audience. On this album Chris Andrew played keyboards, Greg Smith and Russ Broom played guitar, Bob Tildesley played trumpet, Sandro Dominelli played drums and Mario Allende provided percussion. Mike Lent co-produced the album and played bass. Babcock states that when choosing players for his band(s) he "tries to find the most proficient players [he] can [and] that [he] looks for players who are versatile and can play different styles". Babcock also states "personality and character are also important [and while] leading three bands he must have a pool of good players”. |
