Powelliphanta traversi latizona, known as one of the amber snails, is a subspecies of large, carnivorous land snail, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusc in the family Rhytididae.

Distribution

This subspecies is endemic to the North Island of New Zealand. It is found only in the Arapaepae Range, near Levin.

Shell description

The shell coloration is yellowish-olive to old gold, with strong spiral bands and lines in dark reddish-brown.

The shell diameter is up to 53 mm, and height up to 27 mm.

Conservation status

Powelliphanta traversi latizona is classified by the New Zealand Department of Conservation as being Nationally Endangered.
