  • My wiki-philosophy:
  1. The consensus at Wikipedia militates in favor of mediocrity! No one wants to admit it, but it is simply the truth. Those who favor higher quality are derided as being militant, abusive, bullies, and elitist... Why should all this be surprising? In every aspect of life, the consensus view always and everywhere militates in favor of mediocrity. It's like the old saying: If the lunch menu is decided by committee, the result will always be hot dogs. So if we want an excellent encyclopedia, we must scrap WP:CONSENSUS. That, of course, is not merely unlikely: it is completely impossible. Therefore we are stuck with a mediocre result. Live with it, or leave it.
  2. More philosophy at WP:3IAR. A smaller piece is at V-challenged. Various bits 'n pieces can be found at my (now temporarily shelved) RfA coaching page. I wholly embrace the idea of using the Internet to present a high-quality, free-of-charge encyclopedia to the public at large.

Notes

  1. ^ Too many steps have been taken returning to the root and the source. Better to have been blind and deaf from the beginning! Dwelling in one's true abode, unconcerned with that without—The river flows tranquilly on and the flowers are red. Ten Bulls, number 9, "Reaching the Source".
  2. ^ 9 What does the worker gain from his toil? 10 I have seen the burden God has laid on men. 11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end. 12 I know that there is nothing better for men than to be happy and do good while they live. 13 That everyone may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all his toil—this is the gift of God. Ecclesiastes 3:9–13
  3. ^ I used to be dogmatic, but my karma ran over my dogma
