History

Founded in 1985, Envision EMI is a creator of leadership education programs for high achieving young people from middle school age through college. The company plans, organizes, and runs seminars, programs, and conferences around the world that provide participants with the skills and resources they need to succeed and reach their full leadership potential. Since its founding, Envision EMI has run more than 1,500 educational programs attended by more than 530,000 students.

Mission

Envision EMI creates educational experiences that help prepare young people with scholastic merit and strong leadership potential for their lives and future professional careers. Each year, tens of thousands of students participate in Envision-led programs hosted in countries around the world including Australia, Austria, Canada, China, Czech Republic, India, South Africa, and the United States.

Goals

Programs are designed to:

Educate- through a curriculum that is interactive, age-appropriate, engaging, fun and pedagogically sound.

Motivate- students to learn and achieve success through the development of their unique strengths.

Inspire– through role models and success stories (Source: An 11-Year-Old Cookbook Author, Rachel Ray). Often times, it is the program participants who inspire the Cabinet Members, Members of Congress, Supreme Court Justices, CEOs, and other high-level speakers who come to meet with them.

Programs

The Junior National Young Leaders Conference (JrNYLC)— The JrNYLC helps scholars develop and sharpen their leadership skills by examining the leaders of the past and empowering them to make a positive social impact in their community and the world.

Geared toward looking at leadership through a practical, everyday lens, JrNYLC incorporates a detailed examination of eight leadership traits and focuses on leaders in American history and social advocacy. Distinctive site experiences, hands-on exercises and workshops bring these concepts to life, while students work together to develop action plans that affect change within their home and communities.

The National Youth Leaders Conference (NYLCThe National Young Leaders Conference (NYLC) is designed to instruct and enrich promising students in a hands-on, experiential atmosphere while preparing them for a lifetime of leadership.

NYLC offers students the opportunity to discuss current events and issues with top policy makers in Washington, D.C., analyze concepts and then put them immediately to work. This dynamic program features creative decision-making simulations that challenge young minds to solve problems and lead their peers through role-playing exercises in an energy-charged environment far from the traditional classroom experience.

The Global Young Leaders Conference (GYLC)— The Global Young Leaders Conference is a unique leadership development program that brings together outstanding young people from around the world to build critical leadership skills in a global context.

GYLC offers students the opportunity to learn from and exchange ideas with some of the world's top business leaders, policy officials, lobbyists, journalists, diplomats and academics in the challenging and dynamic environments of Washington, D.C. and New York City; Vienna, Budapest and Prague; or Beijing, Hangzhou and Shanghai.

The National Young Leaders State Conference (NYLSC)— The National Young Leaders State Conference is a unique, life-changing experience specifically geared toward eighth and ninth grade students readying for this critical phase in their life. The intense four-day curriculum focuses on eight core leadership power tools.

NYLSC challenges each scholar to step forward with conviction and confidence, to grasp the concepts of leadership and to act upon their dreams of making a difference in their communities. With the insight and guidance of highly trained facilitators and the assistance of their peers, scholars work within each activity to hone their plan of personal leadership.

International Scholar Laureate Program (ISLP)– The ISLP offers pre-professional educational opportunities for university students in Australia, China, Europe, India and South Africa. The program provides participants with the opportunity to further their career development and strengthen their leadership skills.

In each delegation, participants increase their knowledge and preparation in a specific career field. Through a comparative curriculum, they gain a global understanding of how their career of interest is practiced in the host country. With each session, students are able to compare and contrast what they see and learn with current methods and procedures in the United States.

Career areas are offered in: anthropology and archaeology; business; diplomacy and international relations; engineering; medicine and nursing.

National Young Scholars Program (NYSP) – The NYSP is an interactive curriculum designed to develop learning potential for elementary school students. Since its founding in 1992, more than 100,000 students have attended NYLF programs.

National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine (NYLF/MED) – NYLF/MED enrolls high school students from diverse backgrounds who possess academic merit, leadership potential and a strong interest in the field of medicine. This 10-day program is held each summer at renowned medical centers in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. First held in 1993, the NYLF/MED is the nation’s preeminent program in pre-medical education for high school students.

National Youth Leadership Forum on Law and Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) – This program for high school students provides an opportunity to interact with distinguished legal scholars and practitioners, participate in seminars on current legal issues and visit some of the nation’s top law schools, prestigious Washington law firms, local and federal courtrooms and the United States Supreme Court. Students are addressed by nationally-recognized legal professionals who provide insights on current issues, discuss their professional careers and engage in question and answer sessions with the students.

Management

Barbara Harris, Co-founder, owner, entrepreneur Prior to co-founding the Congressional Youth Leadership Council, the National Youth Leadership Forum and Envision EMI with Richard Rossi, Barbara enjoyed a successful career both as a classroom teacher and school administrator. She was the classic "field trip" teacher who preferred her students to learn through experiences rather than through traditional text books. Aside from her work at Envision, Barbara serves on the Board of Directors for Washington First Bank, as a member of the Women's Leadership Board at Harvard University and participated in the Inaugural Women in Power and Leadership at the Kennedy School of Government.

Richard Rossi, Co–founder and Chief Visionary A first generation American – the son of World War II European immigrants – Richard leads Envision's pursuit of its mission to create unique experiences that provide a lifetime advantage to high-achievers. After high school, Richard moved to Washington, DC to attend Georgetown University but his family ran out of money so he went to work full time in the United States Senate at age 19 and attended college part time, graduating after 8 years. In 1985, Richard joined forces with Barbara Harris to establish the Congressional Youth Leadership Council. They also co-founded The National Youth Leadership Forum and Envision EMI.
