Burke Is A former Chairman of the Hutt Valley Energy board and has served on the Boards of several national organisations including Sister Cities New Zealand (National President), the Electricity Supply Association (Vice President) and The New Zealand Licensing Trusts Association(Junior Vice President).

John Burke QSO JP (6 February 1946-) is a former Mayor of Porirua City, Wellington Region, New Zealandsucceeding Whitford Brown. Prior to being elected Mayor in 1983 he served 12 years as a City Councillor and six years from 1977 to 1983 as Deputy Mayor.

Burke Is A former Chairman of the Hutt Valley Energy board and has served on the Boards of several national organisations including Sister Cities New Zealand (National President), the Electricity Supply Association (Vice President) and The New Zealand Licensing Trusts Association(Junior Vice President).

Burke is currently a Greater Wellington Regional Councillor, Chairs the Hutt Mana Charitable trust, Porirua community Trust and The Mana community Grants Foundation and Chairman.

Burke Received The Queens Service Order in 1989 for public services and the 1990 Commeration Medal for services to New Zealand.

In his 15 years as Porirua's Mayor, he oversaw a significant transformation in Porirua's reputation and growth. Along with then Porirua City Council CEO, John Seddon, Burke was responsible for leading retail growth and bringing the affluent suburb of Whitby into the city boundaries in 1989. Much of the continuing housing and economic growth today is credited to the Burke/Seddon leadership of Porirua City.
