Wizard Rock is a musical movement dating from 2002 that consists of young musicians playing songs about J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter literary franchise. A number of bands have already formed, and a small community is beginning to emerge. The lyrics are usually humorous and simple, and many bands write songs from the point of view of a particular character in the books (usually the character who features in the band's name) and, if performing live, may also cosplay that character. Though most fans of the music were fans of Harry Potter beforehand, some bands have attracted listeners outside of the Harry Potter fanbase.

As of late 2005, what started out as simple and just-for-fun lyrics and music became deeper and much more thought out. Some wizard rock bands can sound the same as what you would hear on the radio, if not better, such as Draco and the Malfoys and The Dark Markers. The number of bands are definitely increasing by the day.
Harry and the Potters was the first wizard rock band, but inspired other wizard rock bands, such as Draco and the Malfoys and The Rita Skeeters.
