Larry Murphy is a carpenter, aged forty five, a married father of two and a convicted rapist. Kidnapped, repeatedly raped and attempted to murder a young Carlow woman in the Wicklow Mountains. He was forced to stop his vicious assault when two late night hunters came across the scene and recognised Murphy. He was forced to flee and was arrested the next morning in his home. Received fifteen years (Judge Carney taking into account his guilty plea which spared his victim having to testify in court) and served just ten. However Murphy was sentenced before the Sex offenders Act was introduced in 2001 so he is not subject to post release supervision order. As a high risk offender Murphy will be visited by a member of the force every month. |
