Fabio Paternò is Research Director and Head of the Laboratory on Human Interfaces in Information Systems at ISTI-CNR in Pisa. He wrote one book on Model-Based Design and Evaluation of Interactive Applications (widely cited in the scientific literature), and has long been working on model-based languages and tools for design, development or evaluation of interactive systems. He has been the scientific coordinator of various International Projects ( MEFISTO, GUITARE, EUD-Net, CAMELEON, OPEN). His research interests include Migratory Interfaces, Methods and Tools for Multimodal User Interface Design and Evaluation, Accessibility, User Interfaces for Mobile Devices, Model-Based Design of Interactive Systems, End-User Development, and Design of User Interfaces for Safety Critical Interactive Systems.

Paternò was the chair of the first International Workshop on Design, Specification, Verification of Interactive Systems. He chaired the fourth Symposium on Human-Computer Interaction with Mobile Devices (MobileHCI), co-chair of the EIS'08 conference and the IFIP HCI Symposium, and is currently chair of ACM EICS.
