Janelle Oredith Arthur[2] (born December 12, 1989) is an American singer from Oliver Springs, Tennessee. She is a finalist on the twelfth season of American Idol.[3]

Early life

Janelle Arthur was born in Oliver Springs, Tennessee, to Judy and Gentle Dean Arthur.[4]

When she was 8 years old, she portrayed Dolly Parton in a theatrical production of Dolly's life at Dollywood theme park.[5] In 2001, Arthur was hired as a child performer for the Country Tonite Theater,[6] in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. As an adult performer, Arthur returned to the Country Tonite Theater stage and remained with the cast for another four years, until she moved to Nashville, Tennessee in 2010 to pursue her music career.[7]

Personal life

Arthur is an active member of the Churches of Christ. She grew up in the congregation at Oliver Springs, Tennessee.[8]

American Idol

Overview

She auditioned in Charlotte. She has auditioned twice before, in seasons 10 and 11. In Season 10, she was cut in the group round, and in Season 11 she made it to the Las Vegas round.

In the semi-finals of the twelfth season, Arthur performed "If I Can Dream" by Elvis Presley. On March 7, 2013, Arthur was voted into the Top 10.[3]
