There is also a definite red tinge around the gill opening, mouth and eyes. Its habits are the same as the marblefish except for its restricted range. |

The notchheaded marblefish (Aplodactylus etheridgii) is a marblefish of the genus Aplodactylus, found between North Cape and East Cape on the North Island of New Zealand, in depths down to 40 metres. Their length is between 35 and 40 centimetres.
The notchheaded marblefish is superficially similar to the marblefish, but is generally smaller and more slender, and has a noticeable dorsal notch between the head and body. The body has the same olive brown body colour as the Marblefish but is covered with small white spots and a distinctive series of of larger white patches in two rows on each side of the back. There is also a definite red tinge around the gill opening, mouth and eyes. Its habits are the same as the marblefish except for its restricted range.
