== Chronostasis ==

Hi Jwratner1! Thank you for you edits of [[Chronostasis]] - you really improved the article. However, your edits would be yet better if you would add the sources of your text. If you don't know how, take a look at [[WP:referencing for beginners]]. Thank you! Much appreciated if you could clarify which texbooks you used when drawing these :) [[User:Sfan00 IMG|Sfan00 IMG]] ([[User talk:Sfan00 IMG|talk]]) 00:12, 19 December 2013 (UTC)
:Photocopying them, you mean. Several are skewed from the copier, and none of the image files are sourced. However, when <nowiki>File:HistoricSealevel.jpg </nowiki> appeared at [[Sea level]], the data was sourced to a textbook and it so happens I know that the image is in fact from page 86 of that textbook (using the fifth edition). ::By golly, <nowiki>File:Oceansedimentthickness.jpg</nowiki> is from the same textbook. Probably a full review is in order.[[User:NewsAndEventsGuy|NewsAndEventsGuy]] ([[User talk:NewsAndEventsGuy|talk]]) 15:06, 19 December 2013 (UTC)

== Better source request for [[:File:Soil pH on Plant Availability of Nutrients.jpg]] ==

Thanks for your upload to Wikipedia:
*[[:File:Soil pH on Plant Availability of Nutrients.jpg]]
You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the [[copyright]] status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the ''exact'' source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following [{{fullurl:Special:Log|type=upload&user={{PAGENAMEE}}}} this link]. If you have any questions please ask them at the [[Wikipedia:Media copyright questions|Media copyright questions page]] or me at my talk page. Thank you. <!-- Template:Bsr-user --> ''Message delivered by [[User:Theo's Little Bot|Theo's Little Bot]] ([[User:Theo's Little Bot/opt-out|opt-out]])'' 03:13, 19 December 2013 (UTC)

==Disambiguation link notification for December 19==

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited [[Elon Musk]], you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page [[Yelp]] ([[tools:~dispenser/cgi-bin/dablinks.py/Elon_Musk|check to confirm]]&nbsp;|&nbsp;[[tools:~dispenser/cgi-bin/dab_solver.py/Elon_Musk|fix with Dab solver]]). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. <small>Read the [[User:DPL bot/Dablink notification FAQ|FAQ]]{{*}} Join us at the [[Wikipedia:Disambiguation pages with links|DPL WikiProject]].</small>

== copyright warning ==

Hello Jwratner1, and welcome to Wikipedia. Your addition to [[:Sea level]] has had to be removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material without [[Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission|permission]] from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.

*You can only copy/translate a ''small'' amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double [[quotation mark]]s (") and a cited source. You can read about this at [[Wikipedia:Non-free content]] in the sections on "text". See also [[Help:Referencing for beginners]], for how to cite sources here.
*Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information ''in your own words and structure'', in proper [[paraphrase]]. Following the source's words too closely can create [[derivative work|copyright problems]], so it is not permitted here; see [[Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing]]. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, [http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/619/01/ hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue].) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to [[Wikipedia:Verifiability|verify]] information and to demonstrate that the content is not [[Wikipedia:No original research|original research]].
*Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is [[Wikipedia:Copyrights]]. You may also want to review [[Wikipedia:Copy-paste]].
*If ''you'' own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a designated agent, you ''may'' be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. However, there are steps that must be taken to verify that license before you do. See [[Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials]].
*In ''very rare cases'' (that is, for sources that are [[public domain]] or [[Wikipedia:FAQ/Copyright#Can I add something to Wikipedia that I got from somewhere else?|compatibly licensed]]), it ''may'' be possible to include greater portions of a source text. ''However'', please seek help at the [[Wikipedia:Help desk|help desk]] before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources ''may not'' be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you ''do'' confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see [[Wikipedia:Plagiarism]] for the steps you need to follow.
*Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied without attribution. If you want to copy from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in [[Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia]].

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be [[Wikipedia:Blocking policy|blocked]] from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page or to reach out to your campus ambassador. A separate instance (different image) was removed from [[Pelagic sediment]] Thank you. <!--Template:uw-copyright-new-->

Revision as of 22:28, 19 December 2013

Greetings!!

I'm currently an Undergraduate Senior at UC Berkeley who has the intention of attaining a B.A. in Earth & Planetary Science by the end of the month of May. I hope to effectively improve wiki pages. Feel free to send a message to my talk page to discuss conflicting opinions.

Thanks for your contributions, and have a wonderful day : D
