Roof pendant, is a term used in geology to describe an isolated piece of sedimentary or metasedimentary rock that survives within a mass of intrusive igneous rock. Roof pendants are usually strongly metamorphosed through the processes of contact metamorphism. They are exposed by erosion of the overlying rock. The presence of a roof pendant indicates that the igneous body is being observed near its upper surface.[1][2] [3]
