The capro dory (Capromimus abbreviatus) is a dory, the only species in the genus Capromimus, found around New Zealand only, over the continental shelf, at depths of between 200 to 500 metres. Its length is between 5 and 10 centimetres.

The capro dory has the thin, deep body typical of all dories but is very small. Its fins are moderately sized, the first dorsal fin having strong spines but not great length as in the john dory.

The body is silver, with dark patterns particularly just behind the gills, and there are dark vertical bars on the tail fin.
