On Friday August 15, 2014, Ms. Rodella's husband, Rio Arriba County Sheriff Thomas Rodella, was arrested by the FBI for allegedly threatening a motorist with a gun, assaulting him and then falsely charging him with trying to run him & his son down.<ref>http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/08/15/fbi-arrests-new-mexico-sheriff/14133171/</ref> After a four-day jury trial in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Mexico at Albuquerque, Rodella was found guilty on September 26, 2014 on two Federal civil rights and firearms counts: Deprivation of civil rights under color of law (18 U.S.C. §242) and Aiding and Abetting (18 U.S.C. §2), and of brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence (18 U.S.C. §924(c)(1)(A)(ii)). Rodella was remanded into custody after the jury returned its verdict and will remain detained pending a future sentencing hearing at which Rodella will be facing a statutory maximum penalty of ten years in prison on the criminal civil rights charge and a mandatory seven years in prison to be served consecutive to any sentence imposed on the other charges on the firearms' charge.
