Mera Naam Yousuf Hai (Urdu: میرا نام یوسف ہے), previously titled as Zulaikha Bina Yusuf, is a 2015 Pakistani romantic drama serial loosely based on the story of Yusuf and Zulaikha by Jami in his book Haft Awrang. It is written by Khalil-Ur-Rehman Qamar, directed by Mehreen Jabbar and produced by Sadia Jabbar. It stars Maya Ali and Imran Abbas Naqvi in titular characters of Zulaikha and Yusuf respectively. Show premiered on 6 March 2015 on A-Plus Entertainment with a time slot of airing a episode every Friday 8:00 pm/PST.

Synopsis

Story starts showing a singer named Yousaf who, after missing his train at the station quickly jumps into the other one who is taking him to the same Place. He is unaware that the train is booked on a wedding ritual known Baraat. he sees Zulekha in a train for the very first time and is unable to get her out of his mind. Zulekha, stuck in between the proposals of her cousins that are masked by the personal interests of her parents, bumps into Yousuf once again who is evidently in love with her. What Zulekha feels for Yousuf is nothing more than momentary attraction as she knows that her marriage has been fixed, however Yousuf is blatant and expressive about his feelings for her. The story follows the lives of two who are stuck between their problems and will further show how their love expands and what problems they face in the name of their love. Things become complicated when Noor Muhammad (Zulakha's Father) announces her marriage with Imran Moeez (his nephew) so he can marry Bushra, Zulakha and Yousuf both fall in love and have no choice to reject Noor Muhammad

Production

Development

Mera Naam Yousaf Hai was developed by producer Sadia Jabbar of Sadia Jabbar Productions, she hired successful director Mehreen Jabbar to direct the series. The Show is written by famous writer Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar, the show is loosely based on the story of Yusuf and Zulaikha by Jami in his book Haft Awrang with few edits, Screenplay is also written by Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar while Script composing is done by Naman Ali. Approximately with twenty one episodes, Zulaikha Bina Yousuf was completed in February 2015 and was all set to premier on 12nd March 2015 with a prime slot of Thursday 8:00pm. However in Mid-March 2015 promotional team gave the show a new title Mera Naam Yousuf Hai and changed its premier to 6th March 2015. Song composition is done by Sultan Athor while the OST given by Saad Sultan. The show approximately airs weekly episode for 35 - 40 (without commercials) minutes every Friday.

Casting

Producer Saadia Jabbar choose, Imran Abbas Naqvi and Maya Ali to play the leading roles of Yusuf and Zulaikha respectively. Imran Abbas, well known for his roles in shows such as Khuda Aur Muhabbat and Dil-e-Muztar joined the shoot after completing his show Alvida. While Maya Ali, known for her success in shows like Aunn Zara (played by the same channel) and Aik Nayee Cinderella was selected to role for the character of Zulaikha, Ali filmed the show and continued filming for Diyar-e-Dil. The Show also casted popular actors Behroze Sabzwari, Waseem Abbas and Hina Bayat for the roles of Waji Ahmed, Noor Muhammad and Afiya. While Mansha Pasha, Parveen Akbar and Mizna Waqas were casted for the roles of Madiha, Kausar Parveen and Dajee.

Filming

The filming of drama serial begin in September/October 2014 and was completed in the late January 2015. under the title Zulaikha Bina Yousuf.. Teasers were released in February along with the OST of serial. Shooting was extensively done in Karachi, production house choose Karachi Cantonment railway station for pivotal shooting location, all of the Posters, title screen, and starting episodes were shot in the station. In early of March, channel releases promos of serial which were heavily praised. Zulaikha Bina Yousuf was officially announced to premier on 12nd March 2014 with Thursday 8:00pm as a prime slot. In 2nd March 2015 it was announced that the title is changed to Mera Naam Yousauf hai with Friday 8:00pm as a prime slot, the premier was then decided to be launched during 6th May 2015

1	Story starts by showing Yusuf who just travelled to Karachi and has came to his friend's house, he narrates him about his travelling. He tells him that he had accidentally entered a train after missing his actually one, luckily this train was taking him to the same place. He sees Zulekha and is unable to keep his eyes away from her, he finds out that she is the daughter of a Maulvi and her father is very strict on emphasis of his daughters, he tells Yusuf to jump out of the train on the next station. When the train approaches the next station, Zulekha along with her sister gets out of it for a walk and Yusuf after looking that she is away from her dad, asks her if her name was Zulekha she denies and leaves. It is told that Yusuf is a singer and believes that one day his carrier would change his destiny. 2	Imran Mughees is Zulekha's cousin whom she fully dislikes because of his character. Zulekha's mother tells her that if she wants to reject Imran Mughees, she must marry her other cousin Ali Hamza who is Afia's nephew. Now Zulekha is stuck between these two proposals and wants to get out of them. Yusuf comes to Zuekha's door. He says that he is a postman and has a parcel for Zukekha, When she comes to the door Zulekha recognises her just when Yousuf tell her his name. He then leaves on his bike.	37:45		175
3	Afiya invites her sister (Ali Hamza's mother) to live with them for ten days, the real purpose is to bring the marriage proposal which Noor Muhammad denies verbally. On the other hand its told that Yusuf's friends's (Taji's) sister Madiha has secret feelings for him and calls him secretly on phone which Yusuf dislikes, she tells him that she is his friend and he can share any thing with her, aware of the truth Yusuf tells her that he loves Zulekha and she must take the marriage proposal for her, deeply hurt Madiha agrees. Zulekha and Yusuf both dream about each other and feel sick both are then reminded by the fact that when love structs the person gets sick for a week. Zulekha ignores this fact but Yusuf agrees to it. Yusuf's mother listens to him talking to his friend and is now aware of his love interest. She tells his father who asks him about Zulekha (aware of the name) Yusuf ignores the conversation and flies it as a joke. Zulekha's father asks her about her choice of wedding, he yells and questions her just then Zulekha denies both the proposals and says that she would marry whom she wants and according to her religion she is given full permission.	35:25		150
4	Yusuf asks Madiha to talk to Zulaikha for he is proposal, Madiha realises that if she has true feelings than she must sacrifice which she does by meeting Zulekha. She acts as if she is her childhood friend and meets her unaware of the truth, Zulekha's family thinks that she is true but she secretly tells Zulekha that she is only here for Yusuf. Zulekha gets angry and asks her to leave Madiha gets to know that she is getting married to Imran Mughees, she then tells this to Yusuf who breaks down.	37:28		168
5	The episode starts showing Yosuf talking to Daji. Yousuf says that he is about to die because Zulekha doesn't love him. He hands over his guitar to Daji and says he is leaving. Daji says that if u love her u can stop her wedding from being held. He asks him to go to her house and talk to her. He encourages him but Yousuf says it's impossible. Meanwhile Madiha is listening them talking to each other. Daji asks Yousuf to take him to Zulekha's house. They leave on their bike for Zulekha's house. After Yousuf has shown Zulekha's house to Daji they stop for tea. They meet a person called Tony (Madiha's,Yousuf's and Daji's friend). He asks them if they remember him. He says that I am the one who wrote "I love you" on Madiha's copy once and Yousuf even broke my one teeth for that. Atlast the recognize him. He takes them to his house. Yousuf doesn't want to go inside by Daji forces him to go. They come to know that Tony lives in the same area where Zulekha lives. Daji asks Tony to take them to the terrace. Yousuf asks Daji that why he wants to go there? Daji asks Tony to tell Yousuf who lives on the other side of his house. He says that person is a Maulvi and is very religious. Daji asks him to tell the name. Tony says his name is Maulvi Noor Muhammad (Zulekha's father). Yousuf looks in surprise at Daji.Daji says to Yousuf "To beta ye Maulvi Noor Muhammad ki chath hai,achi tarhan dekh lo ise." On the other hand Maulvi Noor Muhammad is planning to get married to Bushra (Imran Mughees's aunt),as he was in love with her before he got married to Afiya (Zulekha's mother). When Daji reaches home he tells Madiha that he met Tony and he tells him that tonight Yousuf is going to meet Zulekha. He says that he is about to die because Zulekha's father is not gonna leave him alive. Madiha says that what type of friend you u are? You should stop him from going there. He says that there is 90% chance that he would be murdered in her house but if Zulekha gets married on Sunday then there is 100% chance that he would not be able to live. Before Yousuf and Daji are about to leave for Tony's house Madiha secretly calls Yousuf and tell him where Zulekha's room is (as she knows about her room because she also went to her house before to tell her about Yousuf). Yousuf and Daji reach Tony's house and he leads them to the terrace. Yousuf jumps from Tony's terrace on Zulekha's house terrace. By following Madiha's instructions he reaches the correct room (Zulekha's room). When Zulekha sees Yousuf she is about to shout but Yousuf stops her form doing so. He tell her that it's me Yousuf. She gets angry and says what are u where for? Hajra (Zulekha's sister) also sees Yousuf, at the same moment Zulekha tell her to keep quiet because it's Yousuf. Hajra's reaction is very different form Zulekha. She gets hoy by seeing him. She even asks him to sit. Yousuf takes the chair and is about to sit when Zulekha stops him and says that u would have to talk to meg wile standing. He even asks her to sit. He says that give me only one min and after that u can do what ever u want to do. She agrees. Yousuf looks at his watch and after that he says "Are u going to get married the coming Sunday?" Then he says that he would stop her marriage. Zulekha asks him to leave but Hajra interrupts Her in between. Yousuf asks Zulekha that is this a live marriage. Zulekha doesn't reply. He says that if this a love marriage I won't stop it, no one will be able to stop it. Zulekha asks him to leave once again. He gets up and hand a paper to Zulekha and says that it's my number. By hearing this Zulekha gets angry is about to crumble the paper when Yousuf stops her. He then leaves her room. When he is about to jump back to Tony's house Noor Muhammad sees him. He runs after him but Yousuf gets successful in escaping from there by the help of Daji, who pushes Noor Muhammad back. He rushes downstairs asking Ali hamza and Wali (Zulekha's brother) to bring the guns so that they can kill them. Meanwhile Yousuf and Daji escape with the help of their bike. When Noor Muhammad comes to know that they have escaped when after listening the voice of their motor bike. Actually Noor Muhammad was talking to Bushra when he was upstairs. At Tony's house he tells to his wife (Beenish) that he wonder why Yousuf fell in love with Zulekha not with Madiha? He explains to his wife that how much Madiha loved Yousuf on which she laughs. At Daji's house Daji tells to Madiha that Yousuf got successful in meeting Zulekha. He constantly tries to tell her that what happened when Yousuf was trying to escape but she is not interested in that. She wants to know about the conversation between Yousuf and Zulekha.	37:06		173
6	Yousaf tells Madiha about what happened between his conversation, Hajra tells Zulekha that if she wants to stay away from Ali Hamza, she (Hajra) can fool him that she is in love with him. Zulekha's Aunt is impressed by Hajra's new Behaviour towards them. Zulekha and Hajra Secretly meet Imran Moezz, Zulekha tells him that she doesn't want to marry him and tells him to break off the marriage. On the way home Yousaf and Daji meets Imran and beat him hard. Daji checks Madiha's mobile phone and is aware now of her conversations. Zulekha when arrives home. Noor Muhammad narrates her about the entire story and blames her for this, Zulekha faints. Daji is caught by police men, he is beaten hard by police but he still lies to them that he doesn't know Yousaf at all. Madiha informs Yousaf about the news who reaches to rescue Dajee, Maulvi Noor Muhammad along with Imran Moeez reaches to torture them both. They start to record the situation on their phone and Youaf tells them that he only loves Zulekha and is ready to suffer any sort of torture. 7	Yousaf is injured badly and released from the prison along with Daji, Madiha starts to get worried and makes soup for both, Zulekha calls her and asks about Yousaf's condition she tells her not to tell to Yousaf about this conversation. Zulekha has now began to taunt Noor Muhammad like her Mother Afiya does because of which Afiya now is proud of her. Yousaf's father now reaches Daji's house and scolds them both for their stupidity over Zulekha.	37:06		124
8	Dajee Upon checking Madiha's mobile is now aware of the soft corner she has for Yousaf, he asks if she is in love with him or not, Madiha denies after which he tells her that his Love is only for Zulekha. Noor Muhammad is increasingly reminding every one about the marriage and says that it is scheduled to be on Sunday. Zulekha calls Madiha and tells her that if Yousaf breaks of her marriage she would then fall in love with him, Madiha hides the fact from Yousaf, she later dreams of Yousaf being shot by Wali and Noor Muhammad and is now increasingly worried.	35:07		31
9	Episodes starts with showing Madiha and Dajee talking about Zulekha's marriage, Umair (One of Zulekha's neighbour) tells them about the marriage. He tells Dajee that Nikkah is now scheduled on Friday but Ruksati will take place on Sunday helpless and injured Yousaf now has no choice but to face the consequences, Zulakha gets ready in bridal form and is nervously waiting for Yousaf, Noor Muhammad calls Imran Moeez to ask where he is after which he tells him that he would never marry Zulekha, the marriage hence is postponed. In reality he was kidnapped by Yousaf, Dajee and Madiha and was told that he is spoiling a love story, he promises that he will never marry her and calls Noor Muhammad telling him that he has promised is God to call of the marriage and tells him that he can marry Hajra which Noor Muhammad denies.	37:48		129
10	Dajee and Yousuf release Imran Moeez on the condition that he would never open his mouth in front of any one, reaching home he acts as if he does not know Noor Muhammad which makes Noor Muhammad more angry, Zulekha and Yousuf meet each other in a restaurant, Zulekha tells Yousuf that if he wants to marry her, he has to send a proper marriage proposal for her. That night Imran Moeez is beaten by Noor Muhammad and he accidentally tells him the real propose for the kidnapping, it is also revealed that Afiya is aware of Noor Muhammad extra martial affair thinking that she would never let Noor Muhammad win. The next day Noor Muhamnmad along with Wali (Zulekha's brother) sends a police force to Dajee's house. Zulakha calls Yousuf and tells him to run away she hears the police sound and starts crying hence Yousuf is now aware that she has love for him	36:55		148
11	Zulekha shows reluctance that she would never even dare to marry Imran Moeez hence bothering her father, Ali Hamza along with his mother has left. Their Yousuf is tortured badly and still commits that he loves Zulekha. Dajee before has ran away after Yousuf pleases him and Madiha is living with Yousuf's family until things are fully sorted. Yousuf's parents go to Zulekha's home for the marriage proposal when they meet Zulekha they are impressed by her and are hence proud of Yousuf's choice. When Afiya approaches, she and Wali Ahmed (Yousuf's father) are shocked to see each other. The proposal breaks off and a dark past is revealed that Afiya and Waji Ahmed wanted to marry each other and were class mates, but unfortunately Noor Muhammad married Afiya to spoil her life and the same happened to her which Zulekha is going through hence this is the reason why she wants Zulekha to disobey his father is such conditions, it is also told as Noor Muhammad spoiled her life she wants his life to be ruined promising her self that she would never let him marry Buhra. Madiha visits Zulakha's home begging to leave Yousuf, Zulekha proves her how both of them are spending their lives in depression. 12	Sequences show that Yousuf is being physically tortured at police station and Zulekha is being verbally tortured at her home, Yousuf's mother tells him about the dark past and asks her to leave Zulekha.
