Ethan Cutkosky (born August 19, 1999) is an American actor, best known for his roles as Barto in The Unborn and as Carl Gallagher in the Showtime series Shameless.

Career

Cutkosky began doing photo ads when he was four years old, as a way for he and his mother to spend time together. After doing a few ads, he was asked to audition for commercials and then movies. He landed his first movie role at age 7 in 2006, acting with Vince Vaughn in Fred Clause, filming on Michigan Avenue in his hometown of Chicago. [1]

In 2008, Cutkosky played a major role in the movie The Unborn, where he took the part of a mythical Jewish spirit, a Dybbuk named Barto. He was personally selected by the writer/director, David Goyer, because of his ability to follow direction and maintain an expressionless face during filming. Cutkosky very much appreciated the opportunity to play opposite Gary Oldman in this movie.[2]

In 2009, Cutkosky auditioned for and won the part of Carl Gallagher on the Showtime series Shameless, the John Wells-produced adaptation of the British series of the same name.[3] Carl is the son of Frank Gallagher (William H. Macy), an absentee alcoholic father. Carl is being raised by his sister Fiona (Emmy Rossum), but he is a little out of place and has no real role model in his life; he finds rather unique ways of trying to fit in and vies for his older siblings' attention.

Cutkosky also appeared in the 2010 film Conviction, directed by Tony Goldwyn, and guest starred in season 14, episode 19 of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit as Henry Mesner. [4]

Personal life

Cutkosky is an avid skateboarder, loves photography and is a second degree black belt in Taekwondo. He attends school in his hometown near Chicago, especially during production of Shameless. He is an animal lover and has a number of pets.[5]
