Marketing

On February 8, 2015, Bleiberg Entertainment presented (and sold) Close Range to potential buyers at the European Film Market in Berlin. Blue Box Entertainment bought the distribution rights to "key territories" (on behalf of interested parties); the US rights were sold to XLrator Media and the Canadian rights to VVS Films. Daro Films also bought the distribution rights (to Eastern Europe and Africa); as did AB Groupe (to France), California Filmes (to Latin America), Dutch FilmWorks (to Benelux), Eagle Films (to the Middle East), Moviebox (to Turkey), Second Gen Pictures (to Spain), and SGN Mediaworks (to India).[6] A teaser trailer and teaser poster was released on February 11,[7][8] followed by the official trailer and theatrical release poster on August 21.[5]

Critical reception

Initial reaction

After the worldwide premiere on Polish television, Filmweb awarded the film 5.3 stars out of ten; based on the votes of 327 viewers in Poland.[9] On the other hand, film critic Roy v beck awarded 4 stars out of ten, stating (in Polish): the "opponents" enter "full throttle" within a "(few) minutes", and are "disposed of" at a "renovated pace". After this comes a "few dozen minutes of boredom" that the rest of the film doesn't "compensate" (for) very well". Beck summed up his thoughts by calling the film "drab" and "devoid of a logic(al)" ending.[10]
