Fredrick D. Schaufeld (born September 23, 1959) is an entrepreneur,[1]venture capital investor,[2] sports team owner, philanthropist[3] and patent holder. He started NEW Customer Service Companies in 1983 with a $79 investment[4] and grew it into the nation's leading independent provider of extended service contracts, buyer protection services and product support for retailers, home service providers and manufacturers. Under his leadership, NEW was included in the “Inc. 500” list of the fastest growing private companies in America. Asurion of Nashville, TN, bought NEW in 2008. The combined company – NEW Asurion – is now the world’s largest consumer product protection company. Schaufeld serves on its board.

SWaN & Legend

Along with Anthony Nader and Cliff White, he co-founded SWaN Investors in 2006. After merging with Legend Venture Partners in 2012, SWaN morphed into SWaN & Legend Venture Partners. Schaufeld is one of five managing directors of SWaN & Legend, a multi-stage venture capital firm that invests in high-growth, high-quality organizations and the entrepreneurs behind them.

Collectively, Schaufeld, Nader, David Bosserman, David Strasser and Todd Klein have raised more than $5 billion of institutional financing and participated in 150+ private investments. A few of the companies in which the firm has invested are Custom Ink, Kind Healthy Snacks, Optoro, Quad Learning, Social Radar and Jose Andres Think Food Group.

Sports Investments

He is a partner in Monumental Sports & Entertainment and part owner of the National Hockey League's Washington Capitals, the National Basketball Association's Washington Wizards, the Women's National Basketball Association's Washington Mystics and the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. He also is a partner in the Major League Baseball Association’s Washington Nationals organization.
