The North-Pacific frostfish, Benthodesmus pacificus, is a cutlassfish of the family Trichiuridae found in the north Pacific Ocean between latitudes 50° N and 30° N at depths of between 100 and 1,000 m. Its length is up to 112 cm.
The North-Pacific frostfish is a slender, ribbon-like fish with a long tapering body and a tiny forked caudal fin. The body is silvery, with blackish jaws and operculum. The inside of the mouth and gill cavities is black.
Juveniles are mesopelagic from 100 to 500 m.
