I added a great deal of information since this page was lacking. I also clarified certain sentences that were already written. I work for the South Carolina State Library, which manages Discus.

Discus, which stands for Digital Information for South Carolina Users, is South Carolina's Virtual Library and provides free access to an electronic library that’s available 24/7.[2] The digital library provides several reliable online resources through subscription databases.[2][3][4][5] These resources range from books and magazines to maps and videos. Discus allows students to safely search for up-to-date information without sifting through advertisements and non-educational results found in search engines such as Google. Among the top reasons to use subscription databases is that it prepares young students to find credible sources for later academic achievement.

The South Carolina State Library manages and administers Discus in cooperation with the state’s school, college, and public libraries. Discus is funded primarily by an appropriation from the South Carolina General Assembly in collaboration with the K-12 School Technology Initiative.

Discus is mainly intended for use in libraries or at school,[6][7][8] but requires a login to be accessed elsewhere.[6] Since this service is provided only to South Carolina citizens, individuals needing access may contact their local library media specialist or the Discus Office.
