At age 19, Steven Lagos created his own fine jewelry company, emerging from his belief that jewelry is one of the most personal, significant forms of art a woman can own. He spent years teaching himself the art of goldsmithing, learning classic design skills and creating sculptural, wearable jewelry.

Since 1977, LAGOS has created more than two million pieces.<ref>{{Citation | last = Aspon | first = Catherine | title = Lagos: The Legend | publisher = Papercity | date = February 28, 2013 | url = http://www.papercitymag.com/Article/6047/Lagos%3A-The-Legend/ | accessdate = June 1, 2014}}</ref> Steven Lagos estimates that he has created 10,000 pieces and 400 to 500 new designs each year.<ref>{{Citation | last = Aspon | first = Catherine | title = Lagos: The Legend | publisher = Papercity | date = February 28, 2013 | url = http://www.papercitymag.com/Article/6047/Lagos%3A-The-Legend/ | accessdate = June 1, 2014}}</ref>
Steven was one of the first to create the "Designer Fine Jewelry" category when he launched LAGOS’ premier collection at Neiman Marcus in 1985.

The brand offers innovative design that inspires personal expression. In 2014, LAGOS launched its national campaign, MY LAGOS MY WAY, to reinforce these core values and inspire the LAGOS woman.

Inspired by the luxe, caviar look and feel of a hematite necklace, Steven Lagos went on to develop the brand's iconic Caviar design in 1984.<ref>{{Citation | last = Behan | first = Tara | title = Jewelry Czar | publisher = MainLine Today | date = February 2010 | url = http://www.mainlinetoday.com/Main-Line-Today/February-2010/Jewelry-Czar/ | accessdate = June 24, 2014}}</ref> This innovative style quickly became a LAGOS staple, selling more than 250,000 since its debut.
In 1984, Steven Lagos created the brand’s iconic design, textured sterling silver known as Caviar. In 1986, LAGOS introduced sterling silver pieces accented by 18-karat gold, semi-precious gemstones and caviar-like beading. This collection brought together silver and gold in individual pieces for the first time in LAGOS history.<ref>{{Citation | last = Detterline-Munro | first = Kristin | title = Local Gem: Lagos Fine Jewelry | publisher = Philadelphia Style | date = September 5, 2011 | url = http://phillystylemag.com/the-latest/style-and-beauty/postings/local-gem-lagos-fine-jewelry | accessdate = June 24, 2014}}</ref><ref>{{Citation | title = Lagos Celebrates 35 Years | publisher = Philadelphia Style | date = December 17, 2012 | url = http://phillystylemag.com/the-latest/style-and-beauty/postings/Lagos-celebrates-35-years | accessdate = June 24, 2014}}</ref>
Each season, Steven Lagos sets out to offer a new interpretation of the brand’s signature design. It takes hundreds of steps and a keen eye to complete a single Caviar creation. The unique texture of Caviar is a feat of expert craftsmanship and engineering, creating comfortable, wearable pieces that moves seamlessly with the body. Its luminous beading creates texture and transforms 18k gold, sterling silver, and ceramic into boldly feminine, sculptural jewelry.
