Mahato is a Hindu caste surname used mainly by the kushwaha of the Bihar,Jharkhand,UP,MP and kudumi communities of Chota Nagpur Plateau. Kudumi Mahto(Oraon Tribe) which is a bit lower class than koery Mahto(Mahto/kushwaha/Maurya/saini/Reddy/Verma/Singh).
