Substratum, LLC is a software company based out of Columbus, Ohio, founded in August 2017. Substrate (SUB) is the cryptocurrency which fuels the network. The company's mission is to be the foundation of the decentralized web and provide a free and fair internet to the entire world. Substratum is an open-source network that allows anyone to allocate spare computing resources to make the internet a free and fair place for the entire world. One of the company's mantras is "Earn cryptocurrency. Change the world.", everyone who runs a Substratum Node gets paid via cryptocurrency each time they serve content. It's easy to participate, and it helps build a better, more open internet.

Mission Statement

Substratum is developing an open-source foundation for the decentralized web, providing free, unrestricted, and uncensored access to content for a new Web 3.0.

Concept

The Substratum Network is a worldwide collection of nodes that securely delivers content without the need of a VPN or Tor. Substratum builds the decentralized web by leveraging the power of the individual. Anyone can publish, anyone can participate, and everyone is welcome to browse. Here's how it works:

Substratum Host- Anyone can host websites or applications using Substratum Host, paying network users to serve content.

Substratum Node- Nodes forward content from hosts to web users. Everyone who runs a node gets paid in our cryptocurrency to forward content.

End Web User- Anyone viewing Substratum-hosted content can see it in their regular web browser with no censorship blocks.

The company's flagship product is the Substrate (SUB) token, which is a digital currency or cryptocurrency that also acts as fuel, which powers the decentralized web. The terminology involved with modern cryptocurrencies is confusing to anyone who isn't steeped in the world of technology. Substratum runs on substrate and atoms, a rough linguistic equivalent to dollars and cents. The use of whole numbers with two decimal places aims to ease the learning curve and help mass adoption rates in the general public. Substrate payments provide the fuel that powers the Substratum Network.

Here's a basic example of how the Substratum Network runs:

Step 1: A business or individual wants to host their site on the decentralized web. They purchase Substrate using other cryptoccurrencies or fiat (dollars, euros, etc.).

Step 2: When Substratum Network member running a node forwards the hosted site to a visitor, they receive a Substrate payment from the host.

Step 3: CryptoPay lets shoppers pay using their favorite cryptocurrency. Transactions are converted to the host's perferred currency using Substrate as an intermediary.

Market

Substratum offered its coin at approximately $0.05 per token at its initial coin offering. At its peak, on January 9th, 2018, the coin was valued at $3.24 cents on January 9th, 2018.

As of February 20th, 2018:

Circulating Supply: 226,091,449 SUB

Substratum has employed a token burn strategy, stating that there will be 3 token burns in total. The company burned 60,000,000 tokens on September 24th, 2017 and another 60,000,000 tokens on October 4th, 2017. The 3rd token burn has yet to be announced.
