NAgriTech scientific development started in 2010. The research was conducted by Vitaliy Smirnov, a Professor of Biology, from Moscow, Russia. From 2010 to 2016 the company developed experiments in labs and field trials in several countries around the world, including Brazil, Italy, Russia and Paskistan, investing about USD 5 million. In 2017, the company launched a Initial coin offering expecting to raise USD 200 million. In the same year, the company started to produce its fertilizer in Brazil and Europe.
Stor-Age was first conceived in 2004 as a solution to the lack of self storage facilities available in the greater metropolitan areas of South Africa. Current CEO Gavin Lucas, erstwhile receiving his articles as a CA(SA) at the University of Cape Town, began working with his father, Les Lucas, to build a real estate investment trust alongside his brother, Stephen Lucas, and fellow accountant Steven Horton. The four set up a "hotel pool rental scheme", raising R10 million by selling 200 units valued at R50,000 each. By 2007, they had undertaken extensive market research and secured a site in Edgemead, Cape Town.. A detailed strategy with a minute level of detail saw Stor-Age target 40 properties with a R2 billion portfolio value by 2015. By 2013 they had 33 properties, 17 trading stores, eight greenfield sites and eight acquisitions.
