== Early life ==
Jansen' interest in bodybuilding began at the age of 12 through his early childhood friend Jim Haymore. [[Jim]] had a physique at that time that was beyond his year, he claims, that inspired Jansen to start devoting himself to [[bodybuilding]].
Due to Matts growing interest his in [[bodybuilding]] and weight training Jansens father Richard bought him some old flex equipment for him to have in his basement. This was his introduction into weight training and he trained on that equipment from the age of 12 to the age of 14 where he then got his first gym membership.

At the age of 14 Jansen stepped into a gym for the first time. He had played soccer at a high school level and but whenever he was not playing he was doing his best to improve his body at a young age. Jansen continued to build his friendship and passion for bodybuilding with his friend Jim Haymore and at the age of 20 he competed in his first show with his friend Jim.
