Masika Kalysha Tucker (born June 7th, 1987) known professionally as Masika Kalysha is an American actress, reality television personality, singer/songwriter and businesswoman. She known for her role on Vh1 television show Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood, and WeTV television show Growing Up Hip Hop: Atlanta.[1] Masika is a French Creole[2] urban model, video vixen and singer, originally from Chicago, Illinois.[3] She is known for her appearances in numerous hip hop music videos for artists such as Flo Rida, Waka Flocka Flame and French Montana.
Early Life
Masika was born Masika Kalysha Tucker in Champaign, Illinois and grew up in Chicago, Illinois.[4]. Kalysha attended Landmark where she skipped the 8th grade due to overachieving in her academics. In 2003, Masika graduated from Mount Zion High School in Jonesboro, Georgia. On August 11, 2011 Masika moved to Los Angeles, California to pursue her acting and modeling career after the death of one of her friends Lashawna Threatt. [5]
Career
Film and Reality Television
In 2006, Kalysha made her first acting debut in the film Three Can Play That Game. Kalysha’s role in the film was not a starring one, but it did land Masika her first break in Hollywood as an actress. [6]
In 2013, she made her first reality television appearance casted for Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood season 1. [7]
Kalysha did not appear in Season 2 of Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood Season 2.[8]
Kalysha returned for Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood Season 3, which chronicled the birth of her daughter, Khari Barbie Maxwell, and her subsequent co-parenting with Fetty Wap.[9] Kalysha opened up during season 3 about the ups and downs of her relationship with Fetty Wap.[10]
In 2014, Kalysha started filming for the action packed movie The Prey with Kevin Grevioux, Danny Trejo and Nick Chinlund.[11] The film is set to hit theaters May 2020. [12]
In 2017, Kalysha returned to Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood Season 4.[13] There was amid tensions with the show's producers, allegedly due to her refusal to film with new cast member.[14]. The season revealed scenes of Kalysha breaking the fourth wall several times to express her displeasure with producers, as well as threatening legal action and storming off set.[15] The feud became the season's leading storyline.
In 2018, Kalysha decided not to return to Love and Hip Hop.[16] She quit the show after the season's reunion special, unhappy with her portrayal on the show.[17] Kalysha left VH1 and was later casted on WeTV reality television show Growing Up Hip Hop: Atlanta. [18]
Music
In 2015, Kalysha released her single Andale featuring Fetty Wap. The single is different from Kalysha's two previous single "No More" and "Hella Hollywood" in which both were released early spring 2015. [19] Her single "Hella Hollywood" released May 2015 sampling the 1996 Fugees hit record Ready or Not.[20]
Kalysha released her single "My Own" in the fall of 2016 singing about the relationship between her and rapper Fetty Wap[21]. She released another single "OHHH3X" fall of 2017 featuring Trackdilla which premiered during episode 9 of Love and Hip Hop: Hollywood Season 4 [22]
Personal Life
On December 11, 2015, Kalysha announced her pregnancy with boyfriend and rapper Fetty Wap.[23]
On March 29th, 2016, she gave birth to her and Fetty Wap daughter Khari Barbie Maxwell. [24] After giving birth, Kalysha decided to set a positive example for her daughter and resist the urge to engage in conflicts.[25]
Business Career
Kalysha launched Khari Barbie Beauty, an all vegan cruelty-free, gluten-free, and paraben-free cosmetics line on December 17th, 2016.[26][27] The name of her cosmetics line was inspired after her daughter Khari Barbie Maxwell. [28] Her vision behind the cosmetic line is to create a legacy for her daughter Khari so that she could have her own company and not have to work for anyone else.[29]. The cosmetic line includes lip scrub, lip pencils, lipstick tubes and hair growth supplements.[30]
