Bishnu Majhi (Nepali: विष्णु माझी)[1] is a Nepalese folk singer from Syangja, Nepal. She has been singing Nepali folk, festive and modern lok dohori song for the last fifteen years. She has recorded over 10,000 songs during this time. Much of her music revolves around themes of love and patriotism. Despite of continuous recording and fame till date, she has not been seen publicly since 2008 and Per Song 1,00,000 Nepalese rupees hit song Salko Patko Tapari and over 500 more songs.

Early life

She was born on June 26, 1986 in the neighborhood of Chapakot (Ratnapur-05) located in Syangja. When she was 15 years old she went to Butwal Mahatsobh (बुटवल महत्सव) for a live Dohori singing competition. Singer and composer Mr.Sundar Mani Adhikari took Bishnu Majhi from Syanja showing her a dream of making a singer. Bishnu’s dream came true but the presence of Sundar Mani made her life a nightmare. After living together with Sundarmani Adhikari for eight years, she married him in December 2013 at Pokhara.

During the initial days, she used to earn Rs. 2,500 for singing one song and as time passed she started earning Rs. One Lakh for each song she sang and she is known as the richest singer of Nepal. She has reached the height of popularity in Nepal as a folk artist. Her songs have been hits on more than 100 million on YouTube[2] and iTunes.[3]
