Speedy deletion of :Quarkkäulchen
A tag has been placed on :Quarkkäulchen requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, "See also" section, book reference, category tag, template tag, interwiki link, rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding <code>hangon</code> to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. <B><font color="Blue">RT </font> </B>| <font color="Black"><B>Talk</B></font> 13:21, 19 February 2008 (UTC)<!-- Template:Db-nocontent-notice --> <!-- Template:Db-csd-notice-custom -->

Thanks for uploading :File:Logo_of_the_Open_Access_Scholarly_Publishers_Association_(OASPA).png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Added template for SuggestBot
Hi,

Thanks for being one of SuggestBot's users! I hope you have found the bot's suggestions useful.

We are in the process of switching from our previous list-based signup process to using templates and userboxes, and I have therefore added the appropriate template to your user talk page. You should receive the first set of suggestions within a day, and since we'll be automating SuggestBot you will from then on continue to receive them regularly at the desired frequency.

We now also have a userbox that you can use to let others know you're using SuggestBot, and if you don't want to clutter your user talk page the bot can post to a sub-page in your userspace. More information about the userbox and usage of the template is available on Recommendations Regularly.

If there are any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me on my user talk page. Thanks again, Nettrom (talk) 22:04, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

PS: I noticed you archive SuggestBot's posts to a sub-page, so I added the template there, so the bot will post new suggestions there instead. Hope that's not a problem! DS.

:Thanks! --<font style="font-family:Monotype Corsiva; font-size:15px;">-- Daniel Mietchen</font> 02:39, 20 February 2011 (UTC)

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference
Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was <code>true</code>. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to <code>false</code> in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Wikiproject Open Access
Your proposal for Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals/Open Access is great and I appreciate the work you put into the Wikimedian in Residence on Open Science position. I want to set up the Wikiproject Open Access page. Have you or anyone else done any work preparing a draft for this? I do not want to duplicate work, but am happy to do all the setup.

Also please help me define a scope. I just made this navbox - :Template:Open navbox - because I was interested in organizing all articles about the concept of "openness". Can you tell me what you think is the overarching term which describes every kind of open topic? For example, is "open access" the top-level descriptor for all other terms, such as "open science", "open source", "open communication" and the rest?

How would you feel about this Wikiproject being about improving all articles on the topic of "openness", and not just science or journal-related articles? I have a list of such articles here; in your vision, would they all be included in this wikiproject to be formed?

Thank you for your attention and I hope we can work together. After this is set up I think that I can recruit others to join. <span style="background:#cedff2;color:#11e"> Blue Rasberry </span><span style="cursor:help"><span style="background:#cedff2;color:#11e">(talk)</span></span> 06:53, 10 January 2012 (UTC)

:Hi Lane,
:thanks for dropping in so productively!. It is indeed not simple to put "all things open" into a hierarchy or to define an overarching term. Transparency (behavior) may be worth a look in this regard, though. As for the title and scope of the WikiProject, I am open to both options - "keeping" it under "Open Access" (and thus limited in scope) or starting something under a broader heading (on Twitter, I use "Open X").
:As for navboxes, I have so far primarily used Academic publishing (which could do with a more open illustration than :File:Scientific journals.jpg) but having this complemented by Open navbox is certainly a good idea. I also maintain a list of OA-related topics that probably merit articles on the English Wikipedia, I have started an open access userbox that could be used for recruiting further participants, and I am looking for ways to get community engagement with Open Access File of the Day. Currently under consideration are a DYK for Research Works Act and a Wikipedia ad for the Wikiproject OA and/ or the Open Access File of the Day. Any help with that would be appreciated.
:Looking forward to fruitful collaboration!

Open access file of the day
I saw that you put the OAFD on WikiProject Open Access. How will this work? Is there any template that we can use to make this file and its description change automatically every day? If it did that, then I think a lot of people would put such a template on their userpage and look at it every day. Have you heard of such a thing? It seems like you just manually inserted today's picture, right? <span style="background:#cedff2;color:#11e"> Blue Rasberry </span><span style="cursor:help"><span style="background:#cedff2;color:#11e">(talk)</span></span> 19:14, 13 January 2012 (UTC)
:It's manual for the moment. I am looking into template systems in use at :commons:Commons:Picture of the Day, at WP:DYK and similar but didn't yet have the time to set something up for OAFD. It would be good if you could take a regular look at OAFD and make some nominations or recommendations. The criteria for selection have to be defined too - so far, I was the only participant, so it didn't matter, but getting a wider involvement is certainly desirable. --<font style="font-family:Monotype Corsiva; font-size:15px;"> Daniel Mietchen - WiR/OS (talk) </font> 19:28, 13 January 2012 (UTC)

Hey, I split the open access file of the day to its own template: Open access file of the day. You can edit that page each day to change the image, instead of directly editing the pages which include it, which will make for cleaner edit histories. :: Daniel, glad to hear that. Also, you might want to know about other some upcoming MediaWiki & Wikimedia developers' events, where you can learn more about MediaWiki customization and development, extending functionality with JavaScript, the new Lua templating system, how to best use the web API for bots, and various upcoming features and changes. We'd love to have power users, bot maintainers and writers, and template makers at these events so we can all learn from each other and chat about what needs doing. For example, there's a hackathon in Berlin scheduled for 1-3 June. Best wishes! Sumanah (talk) 13:26, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

Talk:Paedophryne amauensis
Why do you keep adding WikiProject Open Access to Talk:Paedophryne amauensis? The article has nothing to do with open access. Yes, the species was announced in an open access journal, but that's merely a citation and open access isn't even mentioned in the article. You can't go adding WikiProject Open Access to each and every article which cites an open access source. <font face="Times New Roman" color="maroon"><b>Modest Genius</b></font> talk 11:27, 7 March 2012 (UTC)

:Thanks for the feedback. As things stand (and we are just finding our way), WikiProject Open Access has two aims - one is the WikiProject-typical one of improving coverage of the core area and related topics, the second is, as stated on the template, "improving other articles with the help of materials from Open Access sources", which is rather unusual for a WikiProject. In any case, using such templates is one way of tagging articles to keep track of them. I agree that it may not be the most suitable option for tracking articles under the second aim but it's the only one we have explored systematically so far for this WikiProject (though mainly for articles under the first aim).

:We haven't yet defined what the boundaries are for inclusion of articles under the second aim in the WikiProject. We certainly do not plan to "go adding WikiProject Open Access to each and every article which cites an open access source", but lemmata that have originated in an Open Access publication would seem like a good first guess. Other options would be articles that use a large number of files or large amounts of text from Open Access sources.

:Yes, Open Access is not mentioned in the article but in contrast to many other articles started about new species, Paedophryne amauensis uses the original paper for more than a mere citation - it displays images taken or derived from figures in the paper, and there may even be text passages that have been imported or closely paraphrased, all of which would not be possible if the journal would not be (Libre) Open Access. It is this kind of reuse that WikiProject Open Access aims to encourage (e.g. by uploading the files to Commons when such articles are being started), and suggestions for a better way of signaling and tracking that are most welcome. --<font style="font-family:Monotype Corsiva; font-size:15px;"> Daniel Mietchen - WiR/OS (talk) </font> 13:41, 7 March 2012 (UTC)

::That sounds like a very broad remit for a wikiproject. Even if the article does include information from the OA article, that's no more a reason to include it in a wikiproject than text from the 1911 Encyclopaedia Britanica, or any other public domain source, would. The image description page has information on the source of the image, there's no need for something on the article talk page too. Perhaps this is an argument for using something like :Category:Articles incorporating material from an open access publication? <font face="Times New Roman" color="maroon"><b>Modest Genius</b></font> talk 14:58, 7 March 2012 (UTC)

:::For text, we experimentally have :Category:Wikipedia articles incorporating text from open access publications - we'll see where that goes. Not sure yet what is the best option for images - Special:GlobalUsage is not ideal, nor is GLAMorous. I actually made a request last night for a tool that "gives me a list of pages on a given wiki, ranked by the number of times files from a Commons category are being used therein", and I just added one for a related tool that "lists pages on a given wiki that recently had files from a Commons category (or subcategory) added or removed." There is also the possibility of moving the second aim to a companion WikiProject on Commons. In any case, the purpose of tracking file usage goes beyond the mere collection of stats and clearly includes the stimulation of editing in areas where those files are being used or could be. --<font style="font-family:Monotype Corsiva; font-size:15px;"> Daniel Mietchen - WiR/OS (talk) </font> 16:07, 7 March 2012 (UTC)

::::Well, have fun and good luck. I just don't think you should be tagging the talk pages of articles with no obvious relation to open access, that's all. That category seems a much better solution to me; other opinions may differ of course. ===Editorial: Core models and topics===
Stub tagging
Wikimedians interest themselves in everything under the sun — and then some. Discussion on "core topics" may, oddly, be a fringe activity, and was popular here a decade ago.

The situation on Wikidata today does resemble the halcyon days of 2006 of the English Wikipedia. The growth is there, and the reliability and stylistic issues are not yet pressing in on the project. Its Berlin conference at the end of October will have five years of achievement to celebrate. Think Wikimania Frankfurt 2005.
Hi, I saw that you added a number of stub templates to articles on academic and scientific journals. I didn't check all of them, but at least some of them were rated as "start class" and a stub template is therefore inappropriate. Also, there are many different stubs for journals (see :Category:Academic journal stubs; that cat actually also says that articles should not be placed into it directly, but rather into appropriate subcats) and in general it is better to use a more specific template than "journal stub". Just a heads up. Happy editing! --Guillaume2303 (talk) 08:44, 6 May 2012 (UTC)

Progress must be made, however, on referencing "core facts". This has two parts: replacing "imported from Wikipedia" in referencing by external authorities; and picking out statements, such as dates and family relationships, that must not only be reliable but be seen to be reliable.
:Thanks. I don't normally do stub tagging and will take a closer look before I do it next time. --<font style="font-family:Monotype Corsiva; font-size:15px;"> Daniel Mietchen - WiR/OS (talk) </font> 09:45, 6 May 2012 (UTC)

In addition, there are many properties on Wikidata lacking a clear data model. An emerging consensus may push to the front key sourcing and biomedical properties as requiring urgent attention. Wikidata's "manual of style" is currently distributed over thousands of discussions. To make it coalesce, work on such a core is needed.

A collaboration with the MSA sounds like a great idea. I can definitely get the project an entry in next week's news sidebar as well as the weeks before and after your talk. == Your recent GLAM panel talk on Conflict of Interest ==

Hi,

I was interested in contributing to the conversation on conflict of interest and open science more generally. i have some reservations about the open science model, not ideologically but practically, and i would like to have that conversation in a public forum. the problem is, i can't seem to find the page you were using during the panel discussion. if you could direct me there i would appreciate it.

thanks. <small><span class="autosigned">— Preceding unsigned comment added by UseTheCommandLine (talk • contribs) 14:47, 16 July 2012 (UTC)</span></small><!-- Template:Unsigned --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->

UCL report
Hi Dan,

There's a discussion going on at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Medicine#Antioxidants_and_cancer that might interest you. Specifically, there's a source that people are discussing, Food, Nutrition, Physical Activity, and the Prevention of Cancer: a Global Perspective. According to University College London, it's "open access". Have you got any idea what the licensing is for this document and whether it's reusable on Wikipedia (etc.)?

Thanks. —Tom Morris (talk) 20:22, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

:Hi Tom, the licensing terms are stated nowhere (e.g. http://discovery.ucl.ac.uk/open_access.html ), so we have to assume that it's under classical copyright. I just asked them whether that's correct.

Bug in Wikistats plots fixed
Hi Daniel. I was looking over the plots of page view data on http://toolserver.org/~emw/wikistats/ after your question about licensing and noticed a bug. The plots were showing 0 page views on the first of the month for all months before May 2012. This seems to have been caused by a new-ish bug in the third-party JSON API used to retrieve the data, e.g. http://stats-classic.grok.se/json/en/201203/DNA.

I've patched the bug on the toolserver tool, so that inaccuracy and visual flaw are now gone. If you want to regather any graphs, the tool should be stable by tomorrow morning (I'll be doing some maintenance/feature deployments today). If you happen to see this message and need to regather graphs today, then I can work around your schedule and defer work until you're done -- just leave a note on my talk page. Apologies for the inconvenience. Emw (talk) 15:41, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

Suggestion for tab system/slide decks
Hi Daniel,

I noticed that a tabbed page on the Outreach wiki (using this header: outreach:Template:Bookshelf/Tab_header/Education/Educators) highlights the current tab with a lighter background. (To see it in action, see here: outreach:Education/Case_Studies) I don't understand the CSS involved, but I think this is a better interface -- it makes it easier for the reader to determine "where am I right now?" In the spirit of your interest in making improvements to the interface, I thought it would be nice to incorporate this into the slide shows you do. -Pete (talk) 22:30, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
:Thanks for the suggestion. I had seen such designs a few times and always liked them in principle but hadn't yet seen an implementation that I liked. Anyway, I had started playing around with this myself just days ago, and your comment prompted some further experimentation, the results of which you can see here. --<font style="font-family:Monotype Corsiva; font-size:15px;"> Daniel Mietchen - WiR/OS (talk) </font> 23:51, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
:: Cool. I'm having a little trouble understanding how it all fits together, and will try taking a look again later. The functionality looks great; I find the color scheme a little confusing, as it seems that the meaning of light colors vs. dark colors is reversed in the first and second level; but surely colors could be adjusted within your framework, so that's just a minor quibble. I'll take another look sometime when I'm freshly caffeinated, and probably be able to follow the code more easily! -Pete (talk) 06:31, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

EduWiki Conference 5-6 September in Leicester, UK
I am writing to you as you have signed up to the Education Meetup at Wikimania 2012 and perhaps are interested in how Wikipedia links to education. Wikimedia UK is now running a education related event that may be of interest to you: the EduWiki Conference on 5-6 September in Leicester. This event will be looking at Wikipedia and related charitable projects in terms of educational practice, including good faith collaboration, open review, and global participation. It's a chance to talk about innovative work in your institution or online community, and shape the future of Wikimedia UK's work in this area!

The conference will be of interest to educators, scholarly societies members, contributors to Wikipedia and other open education projects, and students.

For details please visit the UK Chapter Wiki.

Please feel welcome to register or promote within your network.

Thank you, Daria Cybulska (talk) 16:27, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

:Hi Daria, thanks for the note. I have a strong interest in education (see e.g. this recent talk) but I'm afraid the timing won't work out for me. Or would you consider remote talks? --<font style="font-family:Monotype Corsiva; font-size:15px;"> Daniel Mietchen - WiR/OS (talk) </font> 19:43, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

Communicate OER
Hi Daniel, we're beginning to ramp up the next phase of Communicate OER. I've moved the page that was previously within WikiProject Education here: WP:Communicate OER. I'd like to begin building it out into a collection of pages in the next few days, and would like to use the header bar format you've built. I copied the contents from my Tufts School of Medicine presentation here: WP:Communicate OER/Header bar, and was about to begin adapting it; but first, I thought I would check with you and see if you have any new suggestions for how to approach this. I am sorry to say, building this kind of thing is very hard for me -- I don't think my brain is well suited to this sort of task, though I do have all the requisite tech skills and can probably get it sorted out in the long run. But I would appreciate any suggestions you might have, before I dive in! Thanks again for your work putting this together. -Pete (talk) 03:11, 14 September 2012 (UTC)

:Hi Pete,
:Looks OK to me as a starting point, though I would consider avoiding pages like Readership2 that are not findable via the tab header.
:I have played around a bit more with the design, and the results can be seen at User:Daniel Mietchen/Talks/CoSci12/Tab header, User:Daniel Mietchen/Talks/SOL 2012/Tab header and User:Daniel Mietchen/Talks/CERN 2012/Tab header. A related design is at :w:sv:user:Axel Pettersson (WMSE)/Presentationer/CMS-introduktion/Start. All of these are for talks, and I think WikiProjects have different communication needs. There are quite a few WikiProjects - for instance WP:PHYSICS - whose page design I like better than that of WP:OPEN. Just a matter of time to get this sorted out. The same applies to my WiR pages on meta - most of them are rarely if ever used, so I have started folding them into WP:OPEN, which gets decent levels of traffic.
:If you run into technical issues or have specific design questions, please let me know, and I will take another look.
:Off to GLAMcamp London. --<font style="font-family:Monotype Corsiva; font-size:15px;"> Daniel Mietchen - WiR/OS (talk) </font> 15:17, 14 September 2012 (UTC)

Galba schirazensis
Hello Daniel, I made an article Galba schirazensis with quite extensive use of open content texts. You have a special ability get such articles to the Main page. If you like the article, then feel free to nominate it. I made also other similar lymnaeid articles in the last week, but this one is probably the most interesting. Maybe this is interesting: ...that although Galba schirazensis looks like a Galba truncatula, a vector of fascioliasis, it does not transfer the disease? I will be improving the article during the weekend. Thank you. --Snek01 (talk) 14:36, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

:Thanks for the note. The article is a good foundation, though I don't like your hook very much and haven't yet found a better one. I am on the road (passing through Czechia on the train tonight) but will try to get to this when back online. --<font style="font-family:Monotype Corsiva; font-size:15px;"> Daniel Mietchen - WiR/OS (talk) </font> 00:51, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

I just saw your comment on hu.wiki, I hope you had a good time in Budapest. Unfortunately, you chose a very unwatched page with you request, and apparently nobody noticed it in time to organize something.

If you ever come to Budapest again, feel free to drop me a line.

::The generic village pump probably. (You kind of chose the index page leading to the actual village pumps, which is not really used by anyone who has found the pumps, and then you chose the talk page of that, which is perhaps seen by even fewer people, alas. Hi Daniel, how are you?

My friends at the Graphics Lab of the Hebrew Wikipedia have kindly imported the videos from this lovely paper (,,,,). Enjoy, ליאור • Lior (talk) 18:49, 3 October 2012 (UTC)
:Thanks, Lior. I had eyed these videos as well but hadn't yet uploaded them, as I was waiting for the Open Access Media Importer to do it automatically once the article is indexed in Central. --<font style="font-family:Monotype Corsiva; font-size:15px;"> Daniel Mietchen - WiR/OS (talk) </font> 14:19, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
::Thank you Daniel, I've updated the Hebrew Wikipedia community about the wonderful Importer at hand. I hope they'll slowly assist in incorporating its input into existing articles. Best, ליאור • Lior (talk) 11:57, 10 October 2012 (UTC)

Welcome to <s>Wikipedia and</s> Communicate OER!
Thank you for signing up on the Communicate OER team page! There's a great group forming -- so far, we have more than 25 people, with a broad range of backgrounds and interests; we have professors, librarians, instructional designers, and more. Members also span a variety of countries and language proficiencies. As we set out to improve articles about openness in education, it looks like we will have a great team to work with. If you haven't looked through the list, I encouraged you to read through it: WP:Communicate OER Team.

Whether or not you're at the Open Education conference this week, we encourage you to engage with us -- we're expecting a flurry of activity as we launch! If you're here, come visit us in room C010 any time; or come to one of our daily 45 minute intro sessions in the Remixathon track in room C215.

Another great way to stay engaged is through the project's "talk page" (aka "discussion page"): WT:COMMOER. Please always feel free to add ideas, questions, etc. at the bottom of that page -- even if you just want to say hi, and go into a little more detail about what you're hoping to work on -- we'd love to hear from you. (I just posted a note at the bottom, exploring the open education article, and seeking input into how we can go about improving it -- take a look!)

If you're just looking to get started, we have a page for that -- WP:Communicate OER Do -- intended to collect ideas of projects we can work on. There's currently a "getting started" recipe for how to post a review of a Wikipedia article; check back for further ideas in the coming days. (And if you're game, feel free to add your own!)

Looking forward to working together, -Pete (talk) 18:25, 16 October 2012 (UTC)

<div style="margin-top:10px; padding-left:5px; font-family:Georgia, Palatino, Palatino Linotype, Times, Times New Roman, serif;">Here's your quick overview of what has been happening around Wikidata over the last week.</div>
<div style="-moz-column-count:2; -webkit-column-count:2; column-count:2;">
* Development
** Added DirectSqlStore to client so that it can directly access the repository database, and not require creating any tables on the client
** Bug fixing on the client extension, and preparing it for first deployment
** Less edit conflicts due to a smarter conflict detection
** Better recent changes comments on the client
** Clean up on the backend for entity artefacts
** The statement UI enables to create statements and displays them, but has still a few glitches
** The client now accesses the data on the server directly, and the data is not replicated anymore

This Month in GLAM in Germany
Hello Daniel Mietchen, Viewing the contents page of the newsletter this month in GLAM I notice there is no German section yet. I noticed you are one of the authors of earlier versions and maybe you can write this time as well about the GLAM related things happening in Germany in the past month. Also Wiki Loves Monuments can be described. I hope Germany can be written about too. Thanks! Greetings - Romaine (talk) 22:23, 6 December 2012 (UTC)
:PS: It would be nice if you are interested to mention your name here (for Germany) if you are willing to write some editions in the future as well. Romaine (talk) 22:30, 6 December 2012 (UTC)
:Hi Romain, thanks for the note. I am not aware of anything noteworthy from Germany this month but will consider signing up for the team for future issues. ** Deployed new code on wikidata.org. All changes can be found here
** Updated demo system
** http://test2.wikipedia.org now uses http://wikidata.org for getting language links and wikidata.org edits affecting the existing articles on test2 show up in RecentChanges (if they are not hidden)
** Statements (think of “population: 2.000.000” and similar things) are taking shape in the interface. They are still pretty buggy though at this point.
** It is now possible to link to images on Wikimedia Commons in a statement (think of “image: sundown_at_the_beach.png” for example)
** Links are now protocol-relative (bugzilla:42534)
** No longer possible to create new items and set labels when database is set to read-only
** Added more tests to the GeoCoordinate parser
** Make use of EditEntity in removeclaims API
** Removed many singletons to reduce global state
** Made SpecialSetLabel work with non-item entities
** Improved settings system
** Improved options of ValueFormatters
** Improved options of ValueParsers
** Moved label+description uniqueness check out of transaction to avoid deadlocks and changed it to only be enforced for edits changing any violating values
** Fixed serialization of SiteArray
** ~=[,,_,,]:3
** Had to fix reporting of aliases in wbsearchentities again
** Implemented integration of baserevids for statements UI API calls for editconflict detection for statements/claims/snaks
** Universal Language Selector fallback fix for Selenium tests
** Report URL to entity in wbsearchentites API module
** Moved the demo system to a larger server
** Fixed several bugs in Statements user interface, most notably, adding Statements to existing sections and layout fixes
** Added wikibase API module on the client to provide information about the associated repo (e.g. url, script path, article path)
** A bunch of messages for autocomments were fixed (they are automatically added as an edit summary for edits on items and co in Wikidata - for example: “‎Changed [en] description: Finnish rock band”)

Illustrated Wikispecies Tree of Life
While we are on this issue, could you write a script that compares existing Commons category/page and check if the corresponding Wikispecies page has an image? I know it has been done before for biographies. I have already tried contacting that individual but he seemed to be inactive since mid-December. :I contacted him by email. --<font style="font-family:Monotype Corsiva; font-size:15px;"> Daniel Mietchen - WiR/OS (talk) </font> 21:50, 20 January 2013 (UTC)
::He replied "The code is here but I don't think is easy to adapt to Wikispecies". --<font style="font-family:Monotype Corsiva; font-size:15px;"> Daniel Mietchen - WiR/OS (talk) </font> 10:49, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
::: Did he say why? Frankly I think it should be much easier than that project since matching scientific species name is much more accurate. Facto Post – Issue 2 – 13 July 2017

Editorial: Core models and topics

[edit]

Wikimedians interest themselves in everything under the sun — and then some. Discussion on "core topics" may, oddly, be a fringe activity, and was popular here a decade ago.

The situation on Wikidata today does resemble the halcyon days of 2006 of the English Wikipedia. The growth is there, and the reliability and stylistic issues are not yet pressing in on the project. Its Berlin conference at the end of October will have five years of achievement to celebrate. Think Wikimania Frankfurt 2005.

Progress must be made, however, on referencing "core facts". This has two parts: replacing "imported from Wikipedia" in referencing by external authorities; and picking out statements, such as dates and family relationships, that must not only be reliable but be seen to be reliable.
