'''Johannes Paulmann''' (born October 4, 1960 in [[Darmstadt]], [[Germany]]) is a german [[Historian]].

Johannes Paulmann studied history and English studies at the universities of [[Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich|Munich]] and [[University of Leicester|Leicester]]. Afterwards Paulmann worked in the adult education and as a member of the research staff in Tübingen, Munich and London. In 1991 he finished his doctorate with his work on ''Staat und Arbeitsmarkt in Großbritannien'', which was supervised by [[Gerhard A. Ritter]]. Between 2000 and 2002 Paulmann was a substitute professor in Munich. At the [[International University Bremen]] he worked as a history professor from 2002 until 2006 and he was also the first chairholder of the Helmut Schmidt Chair of International History. Between 2006 and 2011 Paulmann held a professorship for recent and modern history at the [[University of Mannheim]]. Since October 2011 he is director of the [[Leibniz Institute of European History]], Departement of Universal History. At the same moment Paulmann is a professor for modern history at the [[Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz|Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz]]. He was a visiting professor at the [[Emory University]] in [[Atlanta]], at the [[London School of Economics]] and at the [[Magdalen College]] in [[Oxford]]. His research interests concern the European and German history of the 19th and 20th century, escpecially transnational developments in the 19th and 20th century. Paulmann is currently working on the history of [[humanitarian aid]] in the 19th and 20th century.
