Per this, at [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Prince_(musician)&oldid=368061856#Stage_names Prince (musician)#Stage names,] the artist used that symbol as his ''legal name'' from 1993 through 2000 ''and also'' copyrighted it in 1997 because he had used it on the cover of one of his albums released in 1992. Accordingly, whether or not it is fair use to use the image depends on whether one is referring to ''the album'', or is referring to ''the artist'' as he was known during the 1993–2000 time frame. It would be nice if DASHBot could be told to seek human guidance instead of automatically deleting all use of this symbol in talk pages. I was referring to the artist [[File:Prince logo.svg|14px]] as he was legally known in the 1993–2000 time frame, in my post. :Hmm. Lets bring this to [[WP:MCQ|The Media copyright questions]] page and see what they have to say, because I must admit, I have no idea what policy says for this type of instance. Revision as of 05:05, 16 June 2010

Thank you for uploading File:2005SECChamplogo.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Image Screening Bot (talk) 04:34, 13 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Herald.png

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Herald.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Orphaned non-free image File:Hydro-Québec Logo.svg

The file is no longer orphaned. Some mindless bot delinked the correct version of the logo here on en and replaced it by a candidate for deletion on Commons. I have reverted the edit and the above-mentioned picture is no longer orphaned. Thanks for letting me know of the screwup. Bouchecl (talk) 19:43, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The artist formally known as "Love Symbol #2"

This bot edit doesn’t strike me as supportable. Per this, at Prince (musician)#Stage names, the artist used that symbol as his legal name from 1993 through 2000 and also copyrighted it in 1997 because he had used it on the cover of one of his albums released in 1992. Accordingly, whether or not it is fair use to use the image depends on whether one is referring to the album, or is referring to the artist as he was known during the 1993–2000 time frame. It would be nice if DASHBot could be told to seek human guidance instead of automatically deleting all use of this symbol in talk pages. I was referring to the artist 14px as he was legally known in the 1993–2000 time frame, in my post. Greg L (talk) 22:41, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm. Lets bring this to The Media copyright questions page and see what they have to say, because I must admit, I have no idea what policy says for this type of instance. Tim1357 talk 22:39, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I got a response. Tim1357 talk 00:57, 16 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Does “fair use” mean it is OK to discuss the artist by that name on talk pages? Greg L (talk) 03:53, 16 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
